At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a £7 trillion
industry, which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets
successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.
Until now, insurance has been making billion-pound decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings
together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster,
act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world's
largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.
What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every
stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer
programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how
this industry operates.
What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn't tied to title or tenure; it's defined by the challenges you
take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you'll do the best, hardest work of your life in a
company engineered to endure.
If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next.
Platform at hx builds the foundation that enables engineering teams to ship secure, scalable applications at velocity. We're
evolving towards an AI-first platform where self-service infrastructure, intelligent automation, and reusable components compound
developer productivity and operational excellence. This isn't about maintaining the status quo; we're reimagining how modern
software delivery works.
As the Staff Platform Engineer, you will own the technical direction of this evolution. You will define the architecture and
engineering standards that others build to, drive coherence across teams, and ensure the platform strategy is aligned to long-term
business outcomes. You will shape how AI-first, self-service infrastructure is done at scale, not just by delivering capabilities
yourself, but by creating the conditions for engineering teams across the organisation to move faster, more safely, and more
autonomously.

ABOUT PORTFOLIO INTELLIGENCE AND PRODUCT TEAMS Portfolio Intelligence sits at the heart of how our customers understand and steer their books of business. The product suite enables insurers to move beyond individual risk decisions and instead operate at portfolio level - understanding performance, identifying opportunities, and taking action across the $billions of complex risks that they insure. This is not just a reporting or analytics product. It is a foundational data platform that helps insurers answer some of their most critical questions. You will not be building static dashboards, but flexible capabilities that customers can use to solve a wide range of problems in their own way. You will work closely with product, engineering, designers and with underwriters, and actuaries to design the portfolio data layer that underpins analytics, pricing models, and emerging agentic workflows across hx. This means working with highly complex, evolving data schemas and turning them into something usable, reliable, and powerful for decision-making. Ultimately building the foundations for better pricing decisions and driving significant value for our clients. The team operates with high autonomy, rapid experimentation, and tight feedback loops with clients. You will fully own the end-to-end strategy and launch of Portfolio Intelligence. From shaping the problem space and data strategy, through to delivering products that are deeply adopted and relied upon, your focus will be on turning complex portfolio questions into clear, high-impact capabilities that become indispensable to both underwriters and actuaries. This is a role for someone who’s a builder and enjoys going deep - into data, into client problems, and into the details that ultimately drive better decisions at scale. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING * Owning and evolving the end-to-end strategy for Portfolio Intelligence, defining a clear problem space and data strategy that enables customers to make better portfolio-level decisions and materially improve loss ratios. * Taking Batch Rating from early success to widespread adoption, expanding its capabilities to meet the needs of increasingly complex clients and driving meaningful usage across real production workflows. * Leading the launch of Portfolio Analysis from Beta through to full market adoption, shaping the product where needed and driving strong activation, engagement, and measurable client value. * Designing and delivering a robust portfolio data layer that allows customers to work with complex, evolving data schemas — and embedding portfolio metrics and insights directly into pricing models and workflows. * Building the foundations that future agentic tools will rely on, enabling in-context portfolio analysis and decision support, and increasing the depth and sophistication of how customers interact with their data. * Working directly with underwriters and actuaries to deeply understand how they make decisions, and translating those workflows into scalable product capabilities rather than one-off solutions. * Continuously measuring impact — from adoption and usage to efficiency gains and loss ratio improvements — and using that to iterate quickly and effectively. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE DONE * Owned a customer-facing data product end-to-end, from early discovery through to launch and scaling, with clear accountability for adoption and real-world impact. * Built or led the development of modern data platform components (e.g. metrics layers, semantic layers, or systems working with complex and evolving data schemas), and used them to power decision-making in production. * Launched and iterated on data-heavy products with deep client involvement, not just shipping features, but working closely with users to ensure what you build actually gets used. * Developed strong intuition for working with complex data, understanding not just structure, but how to turn that complexity into clear, usable products that drive better decisions. * Partnered effectively across engineering, design, senior leadership and domain experts (e.g. actuaries, analysts, or similar), and are comfortable operating at the intersection of technical depth and real-world use cases. * Operated with high ownership in ambiguous environments, defining problems, setting direction, and iterating based on feedback and outcomes. YOU’RE UNLIKELY TO THRIVE HERE IF * You are most comfortable managing teams, rather than making an impact by owning and building things yourself. * You prefer strategic role and working at a distance - you do not enjoy engaging deeply with data and technical details * You usually simplify data and build V1, instead of embracing complexity first and creating an elegant solution later. If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you'll do your best work. We're building something that asks for commitment and conviction, and we want you to feel excited by the opportunity to grow with us. COMPENSATION At hx, we're committed to salary transparency.
