Heart is targeting type certification of the ES-30 by the end of the decade. Your Mission We are seeking a Propulsion Engineer to join our Dynamic Propulsion team in Torrance, CA. You will lead the testing, validation and certification of the aircraft’s hybrid-electric powertrain system. You will also interface across mechanical, thermal, propulsion, actuation, avionics, and battery teams to develop, execute, and analyze integrated system-level tests of the Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) and its subsystems. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Lead and execute system-level powertrain testing, including electric motor, inverter, gearbox, disconnect systems, and propeller subsystems. * Design and commission hybrid-electric propulsion test stands, HIL, and Digital Twin, including instrumentation, safety systems, control systems, and data acquisition. * Plan, execute, and document test campaigns to verify performance, safety, and certification compliance. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop test procedures and test plans for integrated propulsion systems. * Coordinate with suppliers and external labs to support component and system-level testing. * Analyze test data, prepare reports, and provide feedback to design teams for iterative development. * Support environmental, endurance, fault-injection, and compliance testing for certification readiness. You'll Bring These Qualifications: * 2+ years of professional experience in powertrain, propulsion, or test engineering, with electric or ideally hybrid-electric systems. * Hands-on experience designing and operating powertrain or propulsion test stands with complex instrumentation and control. * Deep understanding of electric powertrains including motors, inverters, batteries, and thermal management systems. * Proficiency with data acquisition systems (e.g., dSPACE, NI, Dewesoft) and instrumentation (current/voltage sensors, thermocouples, strain gauges). * Experience developing automated test procedures and control scripts (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, or similar). * Strong analytical skills in interpreting test data and diagnosing system performance and failure modes. * Understanding of high voltage safety standards and procedures for testing environments. These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have: * Familiarity with aerospace certification requirements (EASA CS-23/25 or FAA FAR Part 23/25). * Experience with DO-160 or MIL-STD environmental test standards. * Experience with root cause analysis and tools such as DFMEA and fault tree analysis. * Background in hybrid propulsion systems or aerospace propulsion integration. Education: * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or related fields. Base Pay Range: $124,000—$216,000 USD

You will lead the design and integration of the hybrid propulsion, including but not limited to the inverters, motors, HV cables, with batteries, and in parallel with Turbomachinery. You will interface across mechanical, thermal, electrical, and flight control systems to deliver a fully integrated and certifiable hybrid Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU). Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: * This role is a Responsible Engineer (RE) who focuses on the integration of power electronics and high voltage electrical systems into our hybrid aircraft. * Full ownership over design, fabrication, commissioning, and certification of the hybrid propulsion system. * Lead and execute system-level tests, such as motor and propeller test stands. * Collaborate with suppliers to ensure delivery of integrated, certifiable subsystems. * Model the electrical and power electronics systems in to our high fidelity Digital Twin for optimization of our hybrid mission profile. * Perform topology selection trade studies. You'll Bring These Qualifications: * 2+ years of professional experience working with power electronics components. * Strong experience in high voltage power electronics design (+800V) including AC/DC inverters, and DC/DC converters. * Strong understanding of HV filter design, grounding analysis, coordination of protective devices. * Hands-on experience with integration of propulsion and/or powertrain test stands, including instrumentation, controls, and mechanical assembly. * Extensive experience with Altium/cadence/similar), circuit analysis (spice), gate driver design, and lab work (common tools like oscilloscopes, network analyzers) * Experience with C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink, or PLECS. * Strong knowledge of Avionics communication, ARINC, CAN, and Ethernet. * Strong understanding of Microcontrollers, Multicore processors, Firmware Development, and digital power conversion. These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have: * Understanding of certification requirements (EASA CS-23/25 or FAA FAR Part 23/25). * Knowledge of hardware design and airworthiness DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160. * Demonstrated leadership qualities through cross-functional teamwork on challenging problems. * Working knowledge of EMI/EMC, underlying physics and specifications, along with best practices for design, and strategies. * Hands on experience with Matlab/Simulink Auto Code Generation. Education * Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics, or Power Systems. Base Pay Range: $124,000—$216,000 USD

You will lead the design and integration of the turbomachinery components, including the fuel system and pitch control system. You will interface across mechanical, thermal, electrical, and control systems to deliver a fully integrated and certifiable propulsion unit. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: * This role is a Responsible Engineer (RE) focuses on the integration of turbomachinery into our hybrid aircraft. * Full ownership over design, fabrication, and certification of the hybrid powertrain. * Lead the design of turbomachinery, including combustion systems, fluid analysis, exhaust, high-speed rotating machinery, and similar. * Lead and execute system-level tests, such as engine and propeller test stands. * Collaborate with suppliers to ensure delivery of integrated, certifiable subsystems. * Model the gas turbine in to our high fidelity digital twin for optimization of our hybrid mission profile. Skills & Requirements You'll Bring These Qualifications: * 2+ years of professional experience working with propulsion components such as gas turbines, thermal management systems, propellers, and ancillary systems. * Hands-on experience with propulsion or powertrain test stands, including instrumentation, controls, and mechanical assembly. * Experience with CAD (e.g., Siemens NX), Python, system integration, and PLM tools. * Proficient with static and dynamic structural analysis through simulations on either of Ansys, Nastran, or Abaqus. These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have: * Understanding of certification requirements (EASA CS-23/25 or FAA FAR Part 23/25). * Knowledge of drivetrain dynamics, rotor balancing, or propeller aerodynamics. * Demonstrated leadership qualities through cross-functional teamwork on challenging problems.
