LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER Team: Engineering Prolific Prolific is not just another player in the AI space – we are the architects of the human data infrastructure that's reshaping the landscape of AI development. The role As a Technical Lead within the Enterprise Experience Team, you will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence across one of our product development teams. You will lead the technical direction of projects, ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions, while providing guidance, mentorship, and support to engineers across the team. The role may also include line management responsibilities for less experienced team members. We are looking for candidates with strong experience designing and delivering authentication and authorisation systems, including organisation and permission management within multi-tenant and multi-user architectures. Hands-on experience with identity and access management platforms such as Auth0 and Okta is highly desirable. What you’ll bring to the role * Lead Technical Projects: Oversee the design and implementation of key projects, delivering innovative solutions that align with business goals and customer needs. * Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and resources, providing expert technical guidance. * Drive Engineering Excellence: Create high-quality, efficient code, uphold coding standards through code reviews and contribute to strategic initiatives and standards through the Technical Authority Group. * Mentor and Develop Team Members: Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, mentoring others and assisting in hiring and onboarding new talent. * Influence Technical Direction: Play a key role in strategic technical decisions, promoting the adoption of new technologies and processes to enhance product functionality and performance. * Own Deliverables: Take responsibility for products and features developed by the team, ensuring successful deployment and ongoing support. What you'll bring to this role * Extensive Technical Leadership Experience: Proven experience in technical leadership or senior software development roles with strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills. * Experience with login and authorisation systems, organisation and permission management, and multi-tenant/multi-user architectures, including hands-on work with tools such as Auth0 and Okta. * Technical Experience: Extensive experience with Python and cloud based environments * Product Focus: A product engineering mindset and focus on business impacts of technical efforts * Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to lead diverse teams and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders. * Agile Methodologies Familiarity: Knowledge of agile practices and project management techniques. AN OVERVIEW OF THIS ROLE As a Backend Engineer on the Tenant Scale: Git team, you'll help improve one of the most widely used foundations of modern software development. Git is at the core of how developers collaborate, and this role focuses on making Git and Gitaly more capable, reliable, and efficient for GitLab and the people who use our platform. You'll contribute directly to upstream Git, help shape technical direction, and connect open source community discussions with GitLab product needs. Reporting to the Git team lead, you'll work across Git and Gitaly to deliver changes that improve repository access, performance, and long-term maintainability. What you'll need: * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience * Relevant years of professional experience with a strong technical foundation * Hands-on experience as a data scientist, machine learning engineer, or software engineer is strongly preferred * Experience working on complex, cross-functional technical problems involving data and platform systems * Fluency in English (required) * Portuguese or Spanish is a plus * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Comfortable discussing technical architecture, workflows, and trade-offs in depth; * Advanced communication skills in English (written and spoken); * Python (required): ability to read, understand, and reason about pipeline and platform code; discuss implementation trade-offs with engineers * SQL (required): ability to run independent investigations to validate data, features, and metrics; * Strong fluency in Machine Learning lifecycle and MLOps topics (e.g. Model training, evaluation, and experimentation; Monitoring, drift detection, and production operations; CI/CD for ML workflows; etc) Nice to Have: * Experience with Databricks and Azure. * Prior product management experience on developer, data, or ML platform products. * Familiarity with product and project management tools (Jira, Confluence). * Experience defining and prioritizing a roadmap, backlog, or release plan. * Comfort writing clear requirements, user stories, or acceptance criteria that engineering teams can execute against.
