We are seeking an experienced Power Distribution Design Engineer to support the design, analysis, and optimization of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems for industrial facilities, utilities, renewable energy projects, and critical infrastructure environments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing reliable, efficient, and safe electrical distribution networks while supporting engineering, project delivery, and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities
Design medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) power distribution systems
Perform load flow, short-circuit, voltage drop, and network studies
Develop single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and technical specifications
Support protection coordination studies and system analysis
Review engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and commissioning teams
Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and client requirements
Support project execution throughout design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases
Participate in technical reviews and design optimization activities
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience designing MV and LV power distribution systems
Strong understanding of power systems engineering principles
Experience using ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SKM, or similar power system analysis tools
Experience performing load flow, fault level, and protection coordination studies
Ability to review and interpret technical drawings and electrical documentation
Strong communication and documentation skills
Fluent English, both written and spoken

Description Electrical EIT or Designer Position Description Cushing Terrell is hiring an Electrical EIT or Designer to take ownership of electrical design across a wide range of project types, including power distribution, lighting design, life safety systems, and arc flash and short circuit studies. You will produce construction documents spanning branch circuit design, service and feeder calculations, panel schedules, and lighting layouts for projects across a wide variety of markets. You will also build one-line diagrams and run arc-fault, short circuit, and arc flash studies, and apply your understanding of emergency power systems, including generators, UPS systems, and battery-backed life safety lighting, to keep designs code compliant. What does success look like year one? You are independently producing one-line diagrams and arc flash studies, taking the lead on assigned electrical scopes, and contributing specifications and technical documentation from design development through construction administration, with the latitude to help shape your own project mix over time. Position Salary Range* The expected salary range for this position is $67,000 to $85,000 annually. WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION: This role will partner with other Design Engineers and Engineering Project Leads to produce detailed engineering designs of heat tracing systems for company projects worldwide in accordance with company and client requirements and to strict project deadlines. In this position, you will get to: * Work with a multi-disciplined Proposal and Engineering team to produce professional, creative designs for a range of different projects. We have an opening for a Street Lighting Designer in our Calgary, AB office. This position is posted as Street Lighting Designer to reflect the specialized focus of the role. The successful candidate will be hired with the internal title of Electrical Designer, consistent with team structure and classification. Responsibilities: * Work within an established team of engineers, designers, and drafters, focused on electrical, lighting, and traffic signal systems projects within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team. * Communicate effectively with clients and internal team members, municipal authorities, utilities, and various project stakeholders over the course of project design and specification development. * Contribute to the successful design, production, coordination, and management of electrical, lighting, and traffic signal systems projects. * Develop power distribution, lighting, and auxiliary systems designs in AutoCAD, AGi32 light software, and/or MicroStation such as single line diagrams, wiring schematics, photometric layouts, grounding details, etc. * Prepare and review wire sizing, voltage drop, and conduit capacity calculations. * Prepare technical reports, tender documentation, and field support (including commissioning/site inspection). * Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g. drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures, and sound engineering practices. * Review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs. * Ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high-quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports. * Other duties as required. Qualifications: * 0–4 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably in street/roadway lighting and electrical systems design; candidates with transferable industry experience will also be considered. * Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma. * Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code. * Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and AGi32 lighting design software. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders (clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities). * Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and coordinate with drafting, civil, survey, and construction disciplines. * Valid Class 5 driver’s license. A few qualifications that would help you succeed: * Experience in municipal roadway lighting design; familiarity with traffic signal systems is an asset. * P.Eng. or P.Tech designation in Alberta, or eligibility to obtain. * Experience with site inspections, construction support, or contract administration. * Experience contributing to large, multi-disciplinary projects. * Experience in a consulting environment.
