The opportunity Hitachi Energy is establishing an AI Center of Competence (CoC) to accelerate engineering productivity, improve design quality, and enable next-generation intelligent engineering solutions across civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines. The AI Lead Engineer will shape the vision, establish foundational capabilities (governance, platforms, operating model), and deliver early AI pilots that create tangible value for engineers and project teams. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical depth, domain understanding, and strong stakeholder engagement. How you’ll make an impact Establish the AI Center of Competence from the ground up Define the mission, operating model, governance framework, and technical standards for responsible AI adoption. Build trusted partnerships with IT, cybersecurity, legal, and engineering leadership to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant AI deployment across disciplines. Deliver measurable engineering productivity gains within the first year Identify and execute 2–3 high impact AI pilots (e.g., engineering documentation automation, design knowledge retrieval, controls/code assistance) that demonstrably reduce engineering cycle time, improve quality, and free up expert capacity. Translate engineering pain points into deployable AI solutions Work hands-on with civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software teams to deeply understand workflows, tools (PLM, CAD, ERP, document systems), and constraints, turning real world challenges into practical, high value AI applications. Build AI-ready data foundations for long term scale Enable structured, governed, and discoverable engineering data by advancing data ownership, metadata standards, lineage tracking, and access control, laying the groundwork for advanced capabilities such as knowledge graphs and intelligent agents. Bridge strategy and execution in industrial AI adoption Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership, clearly articulating AI opportunities, risks, and ROI while personally leading prototyping, experimentation, and early deployment in enterprise environments. Shape the future of intelligent engineering at scale Define the roadmap beyond initial pilots, including AI assisted design reviews, engineering copilots, and cross disciplinary knowledge systems. Your background Strong expertise in applied AI and machine learning Proven experience designing and deploying AI solutions in enterprise environments, with particular depth in Generative AI, LLMs, NLP, and document intelligence. Experience building production grade AI systems Familiarity with the full AI lifecycle including data pipelines, model development, MLOps practices, and deployment on modern cloud platforms. Understanding of engineering or industrial environments Exposure to engineering heavy domains such as power systems, mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, or similar industrial contexts. Experience working with complex engineering systems and data Familiarity with tools and enterprise systems such as PLM, ERP, CAD/CAE, requirements management, or large scale document management environments. Strong stakeholder leadership and influence Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, IT, and leadership teams, translating technical AI concepts into practical value for non-AI specialists. In this role, you will work close to real customer projects, building, testing, and verifying control systems before they are deployed globally. This position is designed as a starting point, where you build a solid foundation over 1–2 years and then take the next step internally. This is not a typical desk job. You will work in a lab environment where built in control cabinets with computers and equipment are connected, tested, and verified before being handed over to project teams. Lyten is seeking an Automation Engineer with a specialization in control systems for manufacturing equipment. As an Automation Engineer you will be responsible to develop, integrate, and improve automation systems for manufacturing equipment. You will work closely together with production, process, quality, and software engineers to make sure the automation systems are integrated into the overall factory requirements. As automation engineer you will work together with equipment suppliers to make sure best automation solutions selected and implemented. You will ensure automation systems integrated in manufacturing equipment meet availability, reliability, and resolve production issues with a sense of urgency. Key Responsibilities Overall areas of responsibilities and activities Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to) Develop the automation systems that are to be implemented in the production equipment in the factory as well as the relevant specifications and documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define automation system requirements, select suitable hardware and software, and create robust solutions for production lines. Ensure seamless data integration for manufacturing equipment to Manufacturing Execution System(MES)/Cloud systems. Experience working with data connectivity to Cloud/MES using OPC/UA. Experience working with IT/OT networks. Experience with industrial communication protocols like Profinet, EtherCAT, TCP/IP, Modbus etc. Experience working with sensors, instrumentation, servo drives and motion control. Ability to travel to different Lyten’s factories and to supplier visits. Specific skills & Knowledge Knowledge of Siemens-TIA Portal or Beckhoff-TwinCAT or Mitsubitshi-MELSEC PLCs programming.
