Institutionen för matematik och matematisk statistik utlyser en fullt finansierad doktorandtjänst i matematik med fokus på kombinatorik, gruppteori och geometri. Anställningen omfattar fyra års forskarutbildning vilket innefattar såväl deltagande i forskningsprojekt som forskarutbildningskurser. Sista ansökningsdag är 18 juli 2026. Projektbeskrivning och arbetsuppgifter Doktoranden kommer att genomföra teoretisk forskning i gränslandet mellan kombinatorik, gruppteori och geometri. Vi kommer att undersöka frågor om stelhet och rörelse i icke-klassiska geometrier med hjälp av kombinatoriska, algebraiska och gruppteoretiska metoder, inspirerade av den matematiska teorin för artikulerade system och constraint geometry. Möjliga verktyg omfattar kombinatorik, algebraiska metoder, incidensgeometri, matroidteori, geometrisk gruppteori, och stelhetsteori, beroende på den antagna doktorandens bakgrund och intressen. Projektets exakta inriktning kommer att utvecklas tillsammans med den antagna doktoranden, som kommer att ha stor frihet att påverka forskningen inom projektets övergripande matematiska ram. Den antagna doktoranden kommer att bli en del av en aktiv forskningsmiljö inom diskret matematik, geometri och gruppteori vid Umeå universitet, med möjligheter att interagera med forskare verksamma inom kombinatorik, geometri, gruppteori och närliggande områden. Projektet är integrerat i ett internationellt nätverk av forskningssamarbeten och erbjuder möjligheter till konferensresor, forskningsvistelser och vetenskapligt utbyte. Kvalifikationer Doktoranden kommer antas i forskarutbildningsämnet matematik. Grundläggande behörighet har den som har avlagt en examen på avancerad nivå, fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 240 högskolepoäng (hp), varav minst 60 hp på avancerad nivå, eller på något annat sätt inom eller utom landet förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper. För att uppfylla kravet på särskild behörighet att antas till utbildning på forskarnivå i matematik krävs att den sökande har minst 60 hp inom ämnesområdet matematik, varav minst 15 hp på avancerad nivå. Kraven på förkunskaper enligt ovan anses uppfyllda även av den som i annan ordning förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper. God förmåga att kommunicera på engelska, både i tal och skrift, är ett krav. Erfarenhet av kombinatorik, incidensgeometri, matroidteori, geometrisk gruppteori, algebraiska metoder och/eller stelhetsteori är meriterande men inget krav för anställningen. Som doktorand förväntas du ta en aktiv roll i projektet och i institutionens verksamhet. Du förväntas ha ett vetenskapligt förhållningssätt och god samarbetsförmåga samtidigt som du kan arbeta självständigt. Du bör ha en stark drivkraft att kontinuerligt utveckla dina kunskaper och att utvecklas till en självständig forskare. Bedömningen av de sökande baseras på deras kvalifikationer och deras förmåga att tillgodogöra sig forskarutbildningen. Bedömningar av de behöriga sökande grundar sig på den sökandes kvalifikationer och förutsättningar att tillgodogöra sig forskarutbildningen. Om anställningen Anställningen syftar till en doktorsexamen och doktorandens huvuduppgift är att ägna sig åt egen forskarutbildning, vilket innefattar såväl aktivt deltagande i forskningsprojekt som forskarutbildningskurser. I arbetsuppgifterna kan undervisning eller annat institutionsarbete (upp till 20%) ingå. Anställningen är tidsbegränsad till fyra år på heltid eller upp till fem år vid undervisning på deltid. About the research project The Energy Technology and Policy group (http://www.entap.net/) is recruiting up to 2 postdoctoral researchers on technology foresight for policy-driven low-carbon technologies. The postdoctoral position will focus on developing data-driven approaches for probabilistic modelling of new technologies, both established technologies like solar and wind as well as emerging technologies like hydrogen. THE ROLE Join the team behind Neo4j Graph Analytics for Snowflake, our Snowflake Native App that brings the full power of Neo4j Graph Data Science directly into customers' Snowflake accounts, with no data movement required. You'll work on a product that lives natively inside Snowflake: a containerized Java + Python runtime, a SQL-first API, and a release pipeline that ships graph analytics to enterprise data platforms. Our customers are data engineers and data scientists across financial services, supply chain, telco, and beyond, who use it to run PageRank, community detection, pathfinding, and node embeddings against the warehouses where their data already lives. This is a hands-on, mid-to-senior role at the intersection of graph analytics, cloud-native distribution, and DevOps, with a meaningful say in the platform's technical direction. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Build and evolve the Neo4j Graph Analytics for Snowflake application, embedding Neo4j Graph Data Science into the Snowflake platform. * Design and improve our SQL-facing API: stored procedures, UDFs, and the surface area customers call from their warehouses. * Own significant parts of the build, release, and deployment pipeline: Snowflake CLI, Gradle, container images, and the Java/Python runtimes that execute inside Snowpark Container Services. * Improve the platform's security posture: caller's rights vs. owner's rights stored procedures, restricted caller's rights (RCR), grants, and proactive image scanning. * Collaborate with customers and Solution Engineers to turn real-world requirements into scalable features. * Contribute to operational excellence: runbooks, release processes, observability, and reproducible dev environments. WHAT YOU'LL BRING * 4+ years of professional experience building and shipping production-quality software. * Strong SQL skills and real experience integrating with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or similar). * Solid grounding in at least one of Java or Python, and willingness to be effective in both. * A genuine DevOps mindset: comfortable owning build pipelines, container images, releases, and the operational side of a product. * Experience designing software for performance, scalability, and predictable cost on cloud infrastructure. BONUS POINTS * Hands-on experience with Snowflake, especially Native Apps, Snowpark Container Services, or building stored procedures and UDFs at scale. * Familiarity with Docker, OCI image registries, and security scanning tooling (Semgrep, Snyk, Trivy, etc.). * Understanding of graph theory and graph algorithms (centrality, community detection, pathfinding, embeddings), or strong curiosity to learn them. * Background in distributed systems, JVM performance tuning, or columnar/analytical query engines.
