About the research project The aim of this project is to investigate the use of Graphene related two-dimensional (2D) materials to improve the performance and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries. 2D materials such as graphene, MXenes, and transition metal dichalcogenides possess high electrical conductivity, large surface area, and excellent mechanical strength, which can enhance charge transport and energy storage capacity. These materials can help address major limitations of conventional lithium-ion batteries, including slow charging rates, low energy density, overheating, and poor cycle stability. The project also aims to explore the functionalization of 2D materials and understand how 2D materials can improve battery safety, extend lifespan, and support the development of lightweight and high-performance energy storage systems for future technologies. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Biochemical Assay Development team in the Assay, Profiling & Cell Sciences department within BioPharmaceuticals R&D, Discovery Sciences in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Biochemical Assay Development team is responsible for the generation of novel biochemical and cellular assays to support projects in the early phases of the drug discovery pipeline. The Visiting Professor role As a Visiting Professor, you will contribute to the development of Chalmers’ academic environments through research leadership, international collaboration, mentorship, doctoral education and strategic academic engagement. Activities may include initiating new research collaborations, strengthening international networks, contributing to educational development, mentoring early-career researchers and supporting the long-term development of the host environment. The Academic Excellence Visiting Professor Programme at Chalmers will run during 2027-2028. The appointment is a part-time engagement, corresponding to up to 20% of a full-time position for a maximum of two years. Visiting professors are expected to maintain their affiliation with their home institution throughout the appointment. The level of engagement, duration and duties will be agreed jointly between the visiting professor, the host department and Chalmers. About us The research at the Division of Microstructure Physics focuses on experimental investigations of engineering materials using advanced characterization techniques. We mainly use electron microscopy, atom probe tomography (APT) and large scale facilities (synchrotron and neutron scattering). The research primarily deals with the relation between microstructure and properties, and how this relationship is influenced by processing and in-service degradation. Among the materials studied, steel, hard coatings, zirconium alloys and high entropy materials are central. The applications are often related to energy and sustainability. About the research project Nuclear fuel is enclosed in cladding tubes made from zirconium alloys. To improve reactor safety and economic performance, new alloys are continuously being developed. In this project, the corrosion behaviour of a novel zirconium alloy will be investigated to improve our understanding of the underlying corrosion mechanisms and support the development of next-generation materials. Advanced characterization techniques, including electron microscopy and atom probe tomography, will be used to study corrosion processes at the atomic scale. Who we are looking for The following requirements are mandatory: To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master's degree (masterexamen) of 120 credits or a Master’s degree (magisterexamen) of 60 credits* in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering. About the role You will teach, develop and lead courses primarily at master’s level. Teaching at other levels may be included. You will teach in the area of intellectual property (IP), with two main focus areas: a) management and strategy of IP in technology-based innovation and b) generation, development, analysis, and management of IP within early-stage entrepreneurial venturing processes. The teaching aims to equip students with knowledge, methods and analytical tools to understand how IP can be identified, packaged, scoped, protected, managed and used strategically in different organizational contexts and venturing processes. The content includes basic knowledge of different forms of IP rights, as well as more advanced perspectives on IP strategy, IP-based value creation, patenting and licensing, partnerships, IP analytics, freedom-to-operate considerations, commercialization, and the role of IP in new venture development, deep-tech entrepreneurship, and established technology-based firms. A central part of the role pedagogically is to connect theoretical frameworks with practical application.
