We are looking for a motivated PhD student who wants to develop AI methods and digital twins for resilient energy systems, with a focus on district heating and cooling and building energy systems. You will combine machine learning, modelling and simulation to better understand, predict and strengthen these systems under uncertainty and disturbance – working at the intersection of AI, digital twins and the built environment. About us At RISE, the unit Connected Intelligence conducts applied research and development at the meeting point between artificial intelligence, connected systems and the physical world. We build intelligent, data-driven solutions that turn sensor data, models and real-time information into decisions – for industry, public agencies and society. About the job About the Company The WASH Governance Group at the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, IVL, is looking for an Expert to work on different water and sanitation programs in the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region from our office in Amman, Jordan. IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute is an independent research organization headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, with around 500 experts working across environment and sustainability. The WASH Group is a global team of nearly 20 colleagues based in Stockholm, Bogotá, Amman, Mumbai, and other locations. The WANA office in Amman consists of a small team on site, working in a shared co-working environment. Together, we combine research, technical expertise, and international collaboration to strengthen sustainable and resilient water and sanitation services. About the Role The Expert will be responsible for implementation and development of water governance related projects in relation to resilient water supply and sanitation. This includes knowledge development and research functions, as well as capacity building, technical support and advice on governance related to water supply and sanitation issues; responsible for project development and development of methodologies, tools and knowledge products, the position also include project management, when required. The research subject of Engineering Materials consists of seven senior researchers, two technicians, and eleven doctoral students.   SUBJECT DESCRIPTION Engineering materials includes the field of material composition, structure, properties and production of materials – mainly metallic and ceramic – as well as application aspects.   PROJECT DESCRIPTION The PhD student will focus on the synthesis, optimization, and characterization of advanced sorbent materials for selective NOx and SOx capture under humid industrial conditions. Based on computational design results provided by project partners, the student will develop functionalized activated carbons, ion-exchanged zeolites, and MOF-based hybrid composites with improved adsorption selectivity, moisture stability, and low-temperature regeneration capability. The work will include investigation of adsorption mechanisms, binding thermodynamics, NO and NO2 discrimination, and the effects of SO2 cross-interference using advanced characterization and adsorption testing techniques. The research will also address sorbent durability under realistic gas mixtures containing impurities, while optimizing material formulations for additive manufacturing compatibility and pilot-scale implementation. The project is approved for funding in EIC Pathfinder challenges from waste to value creation.   DUTIES Working as a researcher involves defining your daily tasks and how they will be carried out. You will act and train as a project manager, combined with your development. Involvement with other projects and teaching will occur up to 20 percent of your time.   QUALIFICATIONS Appropriate background for the position is a Master of Science degree in materials science, chemistry or chemical engineering, good knowledge, experience, on sorption and catalysts and their characterization. Department of Aquatic Resources (SLU Aqua) Climate change is impacting aquatic ecosystems worldwide, creating an urgent need for management strategies that strengthen ecological resilience and support sustainable use of aquatic resources. In this two-year postdoctoral project, you will use quantitative  evidence-based syntheses to identify how aquatic management can enhance ecosystem resilience to the impacts of climate change. This position offers opportunities for career development at the interface between ecological research and practical management through scientific publishing, conference participation, and stakeholder engagement.  About the position We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a strong interest in evidence-based conservation and restoration ecology. The project combines fundamental ecological and evolutionary research with applied management science to address: Which management interventions most effectively increase resilience to climate change in aquatic ecosystems? How do dispersal, ecological interactions and evolutionary adaptation influence the success of climate adaptation measures? How can evidence synthesis be translated into practical decision support for environmental managers? You will apply systematic reviews, meta-analyses and other evidence synthesis methods to answer these questions. The work includes close collaboration with practitioners to ensure scientifically robust and practically relevant guidance for climate adaptation. The project is expected to result in scientific publications while directly informing evidence-based environmental policy and management. Du blir en viktig del av vårt team i Stockholmsregionen med placering i Stockholm eller Södertälje, där du tillsammans med kollegor och kunder driver innovativa lösningar som bidrar till en mer hållbar framtid.  Om rollen  I rollen som Lead Engineer ansvarar du för att leda och koordinera tekniska utvecklingsaktiviteter genom hela produktutvecklingsprocessen. Du blir en nyckelperson i projekt där du kombinerar teknisk expertis med ett coachande och samarbetsorienterat ledarskap.  Uppdragen kan genomföras både i AFRYs interna leveransorganisation eller ute hos våra kunder, vilket ger dig en varierad vardag och möjlighet att utvecklas i olika miljöer.  Du kommer att samarbeta nära konstruktörer, projektledare och andra tekniska specialister för att säkerställa att projekt levereras med hög kvalitet och enligt uppsatta mål. Rollen kräver god kommunikationsförmåga och förmågan att omsätta komplexa tekniska utmaningar till tydliga och genomförbara lösningar.  Vem är du?  Vi söker dig som har ett starkt tekniskt intresse och som trivs i en ledande roll där du får inspirera, stötta och utveckla både människor och teknik.
