Om tjänsten

Work on new questions, new ideas and new technology. Most of your time will be spent in our R&D laboratory, where experiments and

data are used to develop and improve solutions that can ultimately be implemented at full scale.

About Cambi

Cambi is a world-leading provider of sustainable technology solutions that enable cities to turn wastewater sludge into valuable

resources. We are a medium-size, Norway-based multinational company listed in Oslo on Euronext Growth, with offices in several

countries. We have diligent employees from different backgrounds and more than 25 nationalities, and a growing sales network

covering all continents.

Our core expertise lies in designing, testing, manufacturing, installing, and operating industrial process installations, used

mainly for treating sewage sludge before or after anaerobic digestion in wastewater treatment plants. The technology, known as

thermal hydrolysis, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and produces renewable energy, organic fertilizers, and various soil products

while destroying pathogens and other harmful substances. Our systems have the capacity to cater to over 120 million individuals

across more than 28 countries. We are proud of having cities like Oslo, London, Washington, Singapore, and Sydney among our

clients.

About the role

We are looking for an R&D Researcher to join Cambi's Technology Team. This is primarily a hands-on laboratory role, where you will

plan and conduct experiments, analyse results and investigate technical questions for which the answer is not known in advance.

Our laboratory conducts both exploratory R&D and customer testing. You may investigate new technologies, improve existing

products, study unexpected behavior or test how THP performs on a customer's sludge or other substrate. The work requires careful

experimental planning, interpretation and communication of results.

You will be expected to think independently and turn technical problems into questions that can actually be investigated: form

hypotheses, identify what would support or contradict them, design useful tests or analyses, and adapt the next step based on the

evidence.

The role also connects laboratory research with Cambi's full-scale installations. Depending on the project, you may take part in

full-scale trials and sample collection, analyse operating and performance data, support commissioning teams during ramp-up of

anaerobic digesters, and contribute to developing a scientific basis for other activities throughout the company.

You will work in a multidisciplinary Technology Team with expertise in process technology, mechanical design, modelling,

experimental research and full-scale plant operation. The position involves regular work at both our Asker and Ås locations.

Key responsibilities

Plan, design and conduct laboratory experiments and R&D studies for internal development projects and customer testing.
Formulate and test hypotheses to investigate technical questions, unexpected results and new ideas.
Analyse, interpret, document and present experimental and process data for internal use, to clients and at conferences.
Actively contribute to the safe, efficient and well-organized operation of the laboratory.
  • Operate laboratory-scale sludge treatment equipment involving high temperatures and pressures in accordance with established

safety and quality procedures.

  • Perform chemical and physical analyses, such as COD and other chemical analyses, rheological measurements, centrate colour

measurements and assessment of sludge dewatering properties.

Contribute to the development and improvement of technologies, products and process solutions.
Ensure high quality, accuracy, traceability and consistency in experimental work and documentation.
Take part in full-scale trials, sample collection and other field activities when relevant.
Support commissioning teams during ramp-up of anaerobic digesters at new Cambi installations when required.
Stay up to date with relevant research and technical developments in our field.

We are looking for someone who

Is curious and genuinely motivated to understand why things behave as they do.
Enjoys hands-on experimental work and is comfortable spending a large part of the working week in the laboratory.
Can break complex problems into smaller, testable questions and design a sensible way to learn what matters.
Is analytical, structured and systematic, with a strong focus on quality.
Is independent and proactive, with the ability to take ownership of tasks and organize their own work.
Can form a hypothesis without becoming attached to it, and change direction when the evidence points elsewhere.
  • Is comfortable saying "I do not know" when that is the technically correct answer, and can identify what information would be

needed to move forward.

Is creative and solution-oriented, with a willingness to explore different approaches.
Takes responsibility for their own learning and is motivated to continuously develop technical knowledge and skills.
Knows when to work independently and when to seek input or involve colleagues with relevant expertise.
Can balance several activities and projects while maintaining a high standard of quality.

Qualifications

  • Relevant higher education in science or engineering, typically at MSc level, or equivalent competence demonstrated through

experience.

  • A background in chemical engineering, process engineering, environmental engineering, biotechnology, chemistry or another

relevant scientific discipline.

  • Experience with laboratory or experimental work through employment, research projects, thesis work, university laboratories or

similar activities.

Strong analytical ability and an interest in interpreting experimental and process data.
Ability to communicate technical results clearly in writing and presentations.
Good written and spoken English.
A valid driving licence and access to a car are an advantage.
  • Experience with wastewater treatment, sludge treatment, anaerobic digestion or related fields is an advantage, but is not

required.

What you can expect

You will join a technical environment where ideas are discussed openly and where people are trusted to think for themselves. The

laboratory workload includes both exploratory R&D and customer testing. You will work on real development questions, help

customers understand how THP performs on their substrates, see how laboratory findings influence engineering decisions, and have

opportunities to follow technology from an early experiment toward pilot work, full-scale implementation and operating experience.

We do not expect a new researcher to know everything. We do expect curiosity, sound reasoning, a willingness to learn and the

judgement to distinguish between what is known, what is assumed and what still needs to be tested.

Why Join Cambi
