Company Description
Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Our main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK. Job Description
Do you want to help shape the future of energy, enable electrification and secure value creation in a changing and dynamic power market? Do you have a curious mind, enjoy working with complex challenges and have a passion for energy markets? Then this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
The energy market is changing rapidly, increasing the need to continuously develop and automate our systems to stay competitive. We are now looking for the right person to strengthen our development capabilities and become a key part of one of our development teams.
Intraday Optimisation Nordic is a performance oriented department responsible for optimisation of Vattenfall’s Nordic portfolio of production and customer consumption on all intraday markets. Thus we have a key role for value creation and the realisation of Vattenfall’s strategy to lead the transition into a sustainable energy system by enabling further integration of renewable energy and new investments in fossil free power. The team is expected to be innovative, high performing and flexible – ready to cope with the rapidly changing dynamics of the European Power market.
The role as Wind & Battery Analyst / Intraday trader:
This is a hybrid role that combines part-time operational work at the Intraday trading-desk in our Nordic Dispatch Center with part-time analytical work in our Wind & Battery Optimisation team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of our optimisation processes, including wind forecasting, trading and optimisation strategies, ancillary service delivery, and the design of systems and tools for quantitative, data-driven decision support. IT and data are integral to all our operations, and you will gain hands-on experience with data analysis, advanced forecasting tools, and algorithmic trading.
Vattenfall’s Nordic Intraday-desk is responsible for optimisation of the Nordic Wind- & Battery-portfolio as well as Balance management and Intraday-trading for the majority of Vattenfall’s Nordic portfolios of both production and customer assets. Working at the intraday desk will give you a deep understanding about the fundamentals of the Nordic power market – the perfect introduction to our business. That knowledge will then be essential for any future analysis- or business development tasks, where we expect you to be creative, take own initiatives and think outside of the box when developing new solutions and trading strategies. IT and data are integral parts of all our processes and in this role you will be introduced to data analysis, advanced forecasting tools and algo-trading.
The hybrid role concept is standard practice within BU Assets and is highly appreciated by our employees. It offers a dynamic and stimulating work environment with diverse responsibilities, allowing you to apply insights from one area to another which creates valuable synergies.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Operational work as Intraday trader in the Nordic dispatch center (scheduled work approximately 50%, which includes working early mornings, late evenings and some weekends)
Support our experts in continuous development of the optimisation of Vattenfall’s Nordic wind- & battery portfolio, including forecasting, optimisation- & trading strategies, algo-trading, ancillary service deliveries etc.
Challenge established solutions and initiate new business improvements
Qualifications
We are looking for a person with:
Relevant university degree in a quantitative or financial discipline, such as Engineering, IT, Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics or similar
Programming and data analysis skills, preferably in Python
Minimum 2–5 years of experience in the Nordic physical power market
Fluent Swedish and good command of English
You have a genuine interest in the Nordic physical power market and a strong business sense. You approach your work with a trader’s mindset and are comfortable adapting to changing circumstances while managing several activities simultaneously. You work in a structured way, communicate clearly and enjoy collaborating with others in a fast-moving market environment.
