JOB SPECIFICATION – JAVA TECHNICAL ANALYST ROLE OVERVIEW Position: Java Technical Analyst Location: Warsaw, Poland (Hybrid – 4 days onsite / 1 day remote) POSITION SUMMARY We are looking for an experienced Java Technical Analyst to join a business-critical FinTech project supporting the development and modernization of a large-scale Terminal Management System (TMS) managing over 300,000 payment terminals. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding complex enterprise systems, analyzing existing code, and delivering technical solutions within a legacy environment. You will work closely with developers, architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to enhance and modernize mission-critical applications while ensuring system stability, maintainability, and performance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES TECHNICAL ANALYSIS & SOLUTION DESIGN * Analyze business and technical requirements to design effective application solutions. * Review functional and analytical documentation and translate requirements into technical implementations. * Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation. * Perform reverse engineering of existing applications using source code, technical documentation, databases, and business processes. * Analyze legacy applications and recommend technical improvements. DEVELOPMENT & MODERNIZATION * Implement enhancements and modifications within existing Java applications. * Support technical upgrades and modernization of legacy systems. * Design, develop, and test application components following best engineering practices. * Develop automated test cases and support application quality initiatives. INTEGRATION & SYSTEM SUPPORT * Participate in system integrations using REST APIs and messaging technologies. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. * Contribute to improving application performance, maintainability, and security. * Support continuous improvement of development processes and technical standards. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE * 4+ years of commercial experience with Java development. * Experience working with large enterprise or legacy systems. * Practical experience in technical analysis, software design, and system integration. * Experience maintaining and modernizing existing applications. TECHNICAL SKILLS * Strong knowledge of Java 8+ and object-oriented programming. * Hands-on experience with Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and JEE. * Experience with RESTful APIs and distributed systems. * Good understanding of RabbitMQ or similar messaging technologies. * Experience with Oracle databases and SQL. * Knowledge of application servers such as JBoss or WildFly. * Familiarity with Maven, Git, GitLab, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Nexus, and Jira. * Experience creating technical documentation and working with reverse engineering activities. SOFT SKILLS * Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset. * Ability to understand complex business processes and legacy architectures. * Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills. * Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. * Good written and spoken English (B2 or higher). We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Java developer to join the Payments Engineering team. The candidate will work in a pod with 3-4 experienced Java developers and focus on adapting legacy applications for non-discretionary ISO20022 changes, which is a new financial messaging standard. An ideal candidate thrives in complex environments, is able to work under time pressure, is keen to understand business logic and excels at reverse engineering a complex code base to implement high-impact changes. Key Responsibilities: * Participate in requirements gathering sessions with business users * Participate in analysis, solution design and planning the work with the Engineering team * Implement and test changes, participate in code reviews, assist in UAT and code releases * Think outside the box when implementing changes and improve the stack as you go along. The position requires 4 days/week in the office. Qualifications: * A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a computational field (Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline) * 4+ years of relevant work experience. * A solid grasp of Java, Spring, Hibernate, and DB2 * Spring Boot — dependency injection, auto-configuration, Spring Data, Spring Security * Apache Kafka — producers, consumers, Kafka Streams (stateful processing, state stores, aggregation), and Kafka Connect * MongoDB — document modelling, Spring Data MongoDB * Maven — multi-module project management, dependency resolution, build lifecycle * Docker — containerization, image builds * RESTful API design and development * Experience with event-driven / microservices architectures in a distributed systems environment * Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred) Preferred: * Angular * IBM MQ / JMS — queue managers, channels * Infrastructure as Code — infrastructure provisioning and management * ISO 20022 or financial messaging standards (SWIFT, CBPR+, FIN) * Python scripting * Experience in financial services, payments, or banking technology * Strong analytical skills * Ability to collaborate effectively and work in a global team * Ability to stay commercially focused, whilst not losing sight of code quality * Good communication skills. Senior Java Developer (TMS) Job Responsibilities: • Design and implementation of IT solutions based on the presented analytical and technical documentation; • Reviewing analytical documentation; • Creating technical documentation; • Technical upgrade for existing system; • Working with legacy code • Conducting regular scans of the application and removing vulnerabilities Job Requirements: • Fully available in the Polish time zone; • Ability to work from the office in Warsaw (weekly: 4 days at the office + 1 day WFH ); • Very good knowledge of Java 8+ and object-oriented programming issues; • Experience in independent design, implementation, documentation, and testing of application components; • Very good and practical knowledge of Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and JEE frameworks; • Practical knowledge with message queue systems, particularly RabbitMQ; • Practical knowledge of tools supporting the software development process: Maven, Git, Gitlab, Gitlab CI/CD, Jenkins, Nexus, Jira; • Knowledge of relational databases, in particular Oracle; • Practical knowledge of RESTful API design; • Experience in system integration; • Experience with distributed systems; • Experience with application servers, JBoss/WildFly; · Knowledge of scanning tools (Fortify, Sonatype..) • Knowledge of English / B2; Description of the area of involvement: TMS (Terminal Management System) is used to manage a very large number of payment terminals (300k+). It gives users a uniform way to manage different terminals from different hardware vendors. TMS has a complex architecture, consisting of two components: TMS (1 WildFly instance), providing a GUI and implementing some business functions, and RTMS (3 Spring-boot instances), implementing most of the business functionalities. A gradual migration from TMS to RTMS is being carried out. The system intensively uses Spring, Hibernate, and RabbitMQ. The system has distributed transactions (different two-phase-commit, saga approaches) and a distributed cache (Hazelcast). TMS is integrated with many internal and external systems (via REST, SOAP, RMI, direct database connections, and database links). The GUI is written in GWT and GWTExt.
