Doktorand i växtbiologi inom funktionell genomik i barrträd Institutionen för fysiologisk botanik Institutionen för fysiologisk botanik vid Umeå universitet utlyser en doktorandanställning inom projektet Con-TEki, som undersöker rollen hos transposabla element (TEs) som drivkrafter för regulatorisk innovation i barrträd (gran och tall). Institutionen är en del av Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC; www.upsc.se), en internationellt ledande forskningsmiljö med cirka 200 forskare inom växtbiologi, inklusive molekylärbiologi, genomik, fysiologi och bioinformatik. UPSC erbjuder tillgång till avancerad infrastruktur för växttransformation, sekvensering, beräkningsanalys och avancerad mikroskopi i en starkt samarbetsinriktad och tvärvetenskaplig miljö. Projektbeskrivning Barrträdsgenom är mycket stora och rika på transposabla element, men de funktionella konsekvenserna av TE-integrationer för genreglering är fortfarande dåligt förstådda. Con-TEki-projektet syftar till att förstå hur TE-härledda regulatoriska element bidrar till divergens i genuttryck och adaptiva responser i barrträd. Detta doktorandprojekt fokuserar på utveckling och implementering av metoder för funktionell validering av regulatoriska element i barrträdssystem. Arbetet kommer att integrera storskaliga regulatoriska genomikdata med experimentell molekylärbiologi för att direkt testa hypoteser genererade från genomdata. Projektet omfattar integration av genomdata (t.ex. kromatintillgänglighet, genuttryck och metyleringsdata) med experimentella metoder för att validera kandidatregulatoriska element och genregulatoriska mekanismer. Särskild vikt kommer att läggas vid att etablera robusta och reproducerbara arbetsflöden för funktionella analyser i gran och tall. Inom ramen för projektet ges goda möjligheter att utveckla kompetens i gränslandet mellan experimentell molekylärbiologi och bioinformatik. Projektet kommer att använda transformations- och valideringsplattformar vid UPSC, vilket möjliggör direkt testning av kandidatregulatoriska element i barrträdssystem. Projektet är särskilt väl lämpat för kandidater med ett starkt intresse för utveckling och optimering av experimentella metoder. Fakultetsnämnden får för en enskild sökande medge undantag från kravet på grundläggande behörighet om det finns särskilda skäl. (HF 7 kap 39 §) För att uppfylla kravet på särskild behörighet att antas till utbildning på forskarnivå i växtbiologi krävs att den sökande fullgjort kursfordringar om minst 90 högskolepoäng på avancerad nivå i biologi, eller andra ämnen med relevans för forskningsområdet, t ex, kemi, fysik eller datavetenskap. Av dessa måste minst 15 högskolepoäng vara från kurser med direkt relevans för forskningsprojektet, och minst 15 högskolepoäng från ett individuellt projektarbete. Goda kunskaper i engelska, båda skriftliga och muntliga, är också ett krav. Kraven på förkunskaper enligt ovan anses uppfyllda även av den som i annan ordning förvärvat i huvudsak motsvarande kunskaper.
