Are you an experienced Scientist with expertise in formulation development, delivery systems, and colloidal chemistry? Randstad Life Sciences is seeking a dedicated R&D Scientist for an exciting consultancy assignment with a global life sciences client based in the Uppsala area.
In this role, you will contribute to the development of novel formulations and support the continuous improvement of existing technical platforms.
The assignment will start in September and last approximately a year.

Responsibilities
Design and perform formulation trials—including hands-on laboratory work to support delivery system optimization and platform enhancements.
Analyze complex data sets, draw scientific conclusions, and draft technical reports and presentations.
Present and discuss research findings with cross-functional and global team members.
Work closely with senior researchers on study design, troubleshooting, and project execution.
Guide and mentor junior laboratory staff in both practical lab techniques and scientific documentation.
Qualifications
PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Colloid Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Proven R&D experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector, or equivalent research background from academia (Postdoc/Research Assistant).
Hands-on experience with the formulation and characterization of nanoparticle systems, combined with a broad understanding of pharmaceutical formulation techniques.
Strong track record in experimental planning and report writing. Excellent written and spoken English.

THIS IS CRADLE Proteins are the molecular machines of life, used for many therapeutic, diagnostic, chemical, agricultural and food applications. Designing and optimizing proteins takes a lot of expert knowledge and manual effort, through the use of custom computational and biological tools. Machine learning is revolutionizing this space, by enabling high-fidelity protein models. At Cradle, we offer a software platform for AI-guided discovery and optimization of proteins, so that biologists can design proteins faster and at scale. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR We are looking for a (Senior) Scientist to join our Large Libraries team and drive the development of novel high-throughput screening capabilities. In this role, you will work on developing novel methods to screen protein variant libraries (e.g. antibodies) that complement our existing yeast display and FACS capabilities. You will push beyond established protocols and develop methods to interrogate vast sequence-function landscapes, generating massive-scale datasets with >10^6 data points. These datasets will power the Cradle AI/ML platform models, strengthening design recommendations, accelerating protein optimization, and deepening our understanding of protein performance. Over time, your efforts will enable our customers to engineer better proteins, faster across biotechnology applications. RESPONSIBILITIES Method Development & Execution * Develop and optimize cutting edge workflows for high-throughput protein library screening and characterization, exceeding 10^6 data points * Build and optimize in vitro and cell-based assay pipelines across multiple display and screening modalities * Design, build, and execute experimental frameworks for library construction, screening, and data generation at scale * Establish robust and repeatable assays with the statistical rigor required for ML model training, evaluation and optimization Technical Leadership * Drive and lead projects from experimental design through data delivery * Identify opportunities to improve throughput, data quality, repeatability, and workflow efficiency. * Collaborate with a cross-functional team to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and iterate on solutions. Cross-functional Collaboration * Partner with the ML team to define data requirements and integrate experimental outputs into the ML pipeline. * Communicate results, insights, and technical challenges effectively across disciplines. * Contribute to shaping the scientific direction of the Large Libraries team and meaningfully contribute to the advancement of the Cradle platform. Reporting to the Head of Development, you will play an integral role in all aspects of new product development including laboratory preparation, sequencing, bioinformatics, and data interpretation. Recently graduated PhD candidates are also welcome to apply. * Prior experience working within biotech, pharmaceutical, or CRO environments. * Strong practical experience in cell culture techniques, including cell line generation. * Ability to develop cellular, molecular biology, and immunological assays to characterise cell phenotypes, e.g. flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, ELISA, etc. * Hands-on experience with high-content imaging instrumentation and software. * Experience with ‘walk-up’ automated laboratory systems (e.g. liquid handling). * Competence in data handling, curve fitting, and statistical analysis. * Experience with industry-standard record keeping. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional, matrixed environment. * Highly motivated, scientifically rigorous, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving biotech setting.
