We are looking for four motivated postdocs to help design the next generation of human-in-the-loop autonomous systems at the Division of https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/cse/our-research/interaction-design-and-software-engineering/ You will contribute to a future in which we can rely on better robots, autonomous networks, and other smart systems – impacting domains such as healthcare, transportation, and other areas of our society. These systems are often software-intensive and we develop mechanisms to create better software for safer, more secure, and more usable systems. About the research project   Several projects are currently recruiting: - SSF project (funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research) on enabling collaboration between teams of humans and autonomous systems. The goal is to design principles for effective coordination in future work environments where humans and machines interact more closely. The project may involve performing empirical studies with humans, developing run-time models that software-intensive systems can use to reason about coordination, designing methods to detect and respond to cybersecurity threats, and running experiments for evaluation. Two postdoc positions will be funded by this project. - VR project (funded by the Swedish Research Council Vetenskapsrådet) on making self-adaptive systems aware of end users’ expectations. The research aims to encourage a strong economy, clean environment and the wise use of resources, while preserving the public’s health and safety.   Project description   Stormwater carries a variety of pollutants from urban environments, posing major challenges for the protection of surface waters. Urban drainage infrastructures such as gully pots and stormwater ponds are critical to mitigate these challenges. Over time, the accumulation of sediments and associated contaminants in these infrastructures lead to an impaired performance and thus requiring routine and environmentally safe maintenance operations. As the use of urban drainage infrastructures expands, the mass of sediments and associated contaminants retained in such infrastructure will continue to grow, amplifying both management challenges and potential environmental risks. Fully characterising these challenges within a wider technical and socio-economic context is essential to ensure that the accumulation of sediments prevents–rather than simply defers– their discharge to coastal environments. Addressing this need is the central aim of this project, responding directly to the needs of municipalities, authorities and practitioners for evidence-based tools, clear governance and legal guidance, environmentally responsible maintenance methods and sustainable financial models, and contributes to reducing land-based pressures on coastal and marine environments through system-level transformation.   The work within the project includes the evaluation and development of technical solutions for operation and maintenance of urban drainage infrastructures as well as detailed characterisation of the waste streams generated from maintenance operations. Within this project, the postdoc will be involved in collaboration with stakeholders in the water and wastewater industry and will communicate results both with the industry and international researchers through well-established competence network. Duties   As a Postdoc you independently plan and carry out your research work. Further tasks include the writing of scientific papers and the participation in Swedish and international conferences. You may also have the opportunity to teach in undergraduate courses and administrative tasks may be included (up to 20% of fulltime). You will have two supervisors who will support you. Current therapeutic strategies largely operate at the gene level, overlooking the functional diversity generated by alternative splicing. This project addresses this critical gap by developing data-driven approaches to identify and prioritize isoform-specific therapeutic targets, enabling a new level of precision in RNA-based treatments. The project will combine large-scale multi-omics integration with advanced machine learning, including artificial neural networks, to predict disease-relevant splice variants across cardiometabolic diseases. By leveraging extensive meta-cohort and perturbation datasets, the work aims to uncover isoform-level regulatory mechanisms and guide the development of next-generation RNA therapeutics with improved specificity and reduced off-target effects. Importantly, computational predictions will be directly linked to experimental evaluation of GalNAc-conjugated RNA therapeutics. The European Spallation Source (ESS) is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. It will provide researchers with unique opportunities to explore the structure of materials at the atomic level. Neutron scattering at ESS will address critical questions in physics, chemistry, geology, materials science and life science. We are now looking for an Instrument Scientist for the DREAM powder diffractometer. The position is with the Diffraction & Imaging Division.   About the division  The Diffraction & Imaging Division consists of the scientific staff that are leading the instrument construction projects and the staff that will eventually execute the day-to-day operations of six neutron instruments. The upcoming responsibilities of the division are  Finalize the installation and commissioning of all instruments in the division Deliver state-of-the-art scientific capabilities for internal and external users to enable the wider science community to advance science and technology  Deliver scientific results from the neutron instruments in collaboration with the user community and other divisions in the science directorate  Plan and implement further developments and upgrades of the instruments Push the state-of-the-art capabilities of neutron instrumentation to make maximum benefit from the ESS source.     Main Responsibilities   The DREAM instrument is a neutron powder diffractometer that offers great flexibility for crystal and magnetic structure studies of ordered and disordered materials. The construction of the instrument is completed. The immediate mission is to commission the instrument with neutrons. Commissioning with neutrons is expected to begin in 2027 and continue through 2028, after which the instrument will transition into operation within the ESS user programme. The instrument scientist will work closely with the core instrument team at ESS, comprising another instrument scientist, an instrument computational scientist, and an instrument operational engineer, and in strong interaction with partner institutions and ESS technical services. The following experience will strengthen your application:  Documented knowledge (education/courses or thesis project) in computational homogenisation and/or computational micro/mesoscale modelling. What you will do Develop your scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research through written scientific publications and oral presentations at international conferences. Collaborate with fellow doctoral candidates within the LEGEND project, utilising synergies between projects. Actively participate in General Assembly meetings and doctoral training events within LEGEND, distributed across Europe. Take courses at an advanced level within the Graduate school of Solid and Structural Mechanics. Develop and implement a computational framework that links small-scale material defects to large-scale structural performance, enabling accurate prediction of how defects affect strength, stiffness, and fracture behaviour. Teach on Chalmers' undergraduate level corresponding to 10 percent of working hours. Contract terms   The Doctoral student positions are fully funded from start.  The position is a fixed-term appointment of four years, with the possibility to teach up to 10%, which extends the position up to four and a half years.  Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire study period. A valid residence permit must be presented by the study start date; otherwise the admission may be withdrawn.  Applicants must not already be in possession of a doctoral degree. Researchers who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will not be considered eligible. Applicants must not not have resided, worked, or studied in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the date of recruitment. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.  To sign the contract, the chosen candidate must fulfil the http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions. The MSCA DN programme offers a highly competitive and attractive salary and working conditions. The chosen candidate will receive a salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations. The MSCA DN grant offers a monthly Living Allowance (€5,012 per month, as adapted to Sweden), Mobility Allowance (€710 per month), and Family Allowance (€495 per month, if applicable). The salary is subject to taxation and social contributions. Chalmers guarantees the starting salary of the position is minimum 35,725 SEK.
