Sitting at the intersection of Data Engineering, Backend Engineering, and Systems Engineering, Data Platform Engineers at Adyen build the foundational layer of tooling and processes for our on-premise Big Data Platforms. These tools support 10s of products, 100s of developers, and 1000s of daily jobs that add to Adyen’s strong portfolio of capabilities. You’ll collaborate with data engineers and ML scientists and engineers to build and roll-out these tools. Along with DataOps Engineers, you’ll develop and operate multiple big data platforms, of which the biggest is 500+ nodes, with 25k+ CPU cores, 240+ TBs of RAM, and 23+ PBs of storage capacity, running tens of thousands of spark jobs a day. YOUR FOCUS AREAS We are currently expanding our platform capabilities. Depending on your expertise, your immediate focus will be driving one of these two key ecosystems: * The OLAP Ecosystem: Scaling and optimizing our real-time analytical powerhouses (Druid, FastAPI, Java, Kafka). * The Data Engineering Ecosystem: Designing and building data contracts, validation frameworks, optimization tooling, and robust Kafka ingestion pipelines. WHAT YOU’LL DO You will balance building innovative new tools from scratch with relentlessly improving our existing infrastructure. This role is a perfect fit if you are passionate about: * Scale: Developing and maintaining high-performance, distributed big data platforms. * Distributed Systems: Working deeply with various flavors of databases, filesystems, and compute engines. * Data Quality & Discoverability: Building tools that enhance metadata collection, data lineage, and platform-wide data quality. * CI/CD & Infrastructure: Optimizing continuous release/deployment environments within a large-scale private cloud system. * Streaming: Developing stream processing applications and frameworks to reduce time-to-insight for analysts and data scientists. WHO YOU ARE * Python or Java Expert: 6+ years of experience with object-oriented programming. * Collaborative Enabler: A strong communicator who thrives on building bridges between the teams you enable (analysts, data scientists) and the teams you depend on (infrastructure, security). * Distributed Systems Architect: Proven experience developing and maintaining: * Distributed compute/data systems (e.g., Spark, Trino, Druid, ClickHouse). * Real-time and batch pipelines (Kafka, Spark Streaming) with a focus on user-friendliness and reliability. Data Scientist Adyen is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with deep expertise in statistical hypothesis testing, experimental design, and quantitative research methods to join the Experimentation Platform team in Amsterdam. We want to significantly increase the breadth of Experimentation at Adyen and that requires cutting-edge statistics. You will help to research and implement innovative hypothesis testing approaches that drive experimentation at industry-leading scale. You will also work with a diverse set of users, advocating and mentoring on best practices in experimental design, interpretation of results, and evidence-based decision-making. In this role, you will:  * Research and implement industry-leading statistical methods to provide robust statistical signals across multiple business domains and contexts, optimising for time-to-signal and experiment quality; * Develop and apply a deep knowledge of Adyen’s specific domain context in order to prioritise statistical methodologies and approaches that maximise business value; * Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in statistical hypothesis testing; * Collaborate closely with your multi-disciplinary team of backend/frontend/data engineers to help scope and define requirements for new platform features, ensuring statistical methods are integrated appropriately; * Collaborate with data scientists across Adyen to identify opportunities for the novel application of statistical and data science techniques to challenging problems; * Work closely with platform users to provide guidance and enable them for success; promoting experiment-driven culture and product development practices. Who You Are: * You have 5+ years of experience as a data scientist, including 2+ years working on an experimentation platform (or similar); * You have a Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field; * You have a strong theoretical understanding of advanced frequentist and Bayesian hypothesis testing (e.g. sequential testing, e-processes, etc) as well as causal inference techniques and a proven track record of implementing such methods at scale; * You have experience designing and analysing controlled experiments in an applied setting to provide tangible business outcomes; * You have experience leveraging a big data framework to create the pipelines needed to gather experiment data; * You have a strong understanding of software engineering practices as well as data engineering principles; * You have strong familiarity with the standard data science toolkit, such as (py)spark, Pandas, SciPy, numpy, and Airflow; * You have an experimental mindset with a launch fast and iterate mentality; * You have proven experience in leading projects from ideation to deployment. You have experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and can clearly communicate complex outcomes over a wide range of audiences. Data Extraction and Accessibility  The Data Extraction and Accessibility team is responsible for building and maintaining the centralized reporting framework used across Adyen. This includes securing and managing data access from both operational systems and the big data platform, transforming data into the required formats, and ensuring its secure delivery to our merchants. What you’ll do: * Work on complex technical projects from requirements analysis through design, implementation, testing and launch into production. * Be hands-on and contribute to the implementation. * Identify and improve parts of the platform to make it more robust and scalable. * Bring your own point of view on best engineering practices.  * Your code will be used at scale and you are expected to think in that mindset when building features. * We launch fast and iterate often. Concretely, this means that within your first few weeks, you will bring live functionalities that impact many merchants and shoppers.  * Build APIs and tooling according to quality principles such as performance and code quality. * Collaborate across teams and time zones to get projects over the finish line. Who you are: * Familiar with complex large scale distributed systems. * You have experience with Java, Web Services, REST Apis, Webhooks and SQL/PostgreSql. * You have a good understanding of Software Engineering practices and interest in product knowledge. * You enjoy working in a cross-functional team with roles like Data Science, Frontend, and Product. * You value involving other people to hear different perspectives. * You have an experimental mindset with a launch fast and iterate mentality. Minimum qualifications: * 7+ years of experience in software development industry in a fast paced tech environment * Full professional proficiency in English * This role is based out of our Amsterdam office.
