Sitting at the intersection of Data Engineering, Backend Engineering, and Systems Engineering, Data Platform Engineers at Adyen
build the foundational layer of tooling and processes for our on-premise Big Data Platforms. These tools support 10s of products,
100s of developers, and 1000s of daily jobs that add to Adyen’s strong portfolio of capabilities.
You’ll collaborate with data engineers and ML scientists and engineers to build and roll-out these tools. Along with DataOps
Engineers, you’ll develop and operate multiple big data platforms, of which the biggest is 500+ nodes, with 25k+ CPU cores, 240+
TBs of RAM, and 23+ PBs of storage capacity, running tens of thousands of spark jobs a day.
We are currently expanding our platform capabilities. Depending on your expertise, your immediate focus will be driving one of
Kafka ingestion pipelines.
You will balance building innovative new tools from scratch with relentlessly improving our existing infrastructure. This role is

What you’ll do You’ll be asked to both build new tools and improve the existing tooling. This role is perfect for you if you're passionate about few of the following: * Develop and maintain scalable and high performance big data platforms. * Work with distributed systems in all shapes and flavors (databases, filesystems, compute, etc.) * Identify opportunities to improve continuous release and deployment environments * Build or deploy tools to enhance data discoverability through the collection and presentation of metadata * Introduce and extend tools to enhance the quality of our data, platform-wide * Explore and introduce technologies and practices to reduce the time to insight for analysts and data scientists * Develop streaming processing applications and frameworks * Experience in infrastructure and large-scale private cloud systems Who you are * At least 6+ years experience with Python object oriented programming. * Team player with strong communication skills * Ability to work closely with diverse stakeholders you enable (analysts, data scientists, data engineers, etc.) and depend upon (infrastructure, security, etc). * Experience developing and maintaining: * Distributed data and compute systems like Spark, Trino, Druid, etc * Data modelling tooling * DevOps pipelines and development ecosystems. * Real-time and batch data pipelines (via Kafka, Spark streaming) with an eye for frameworks, and emphasis on user friendliness and quality. * Kubernetes ecosystem (k8s, docker), and/or Hadoop ecosystems (Hive, Yarn, HDFS, Kerberos). Data Extraction and Accessibility The Data Extraction and Accessibility team is responsible for building and maintaining the centralized reporting framework used across Adyen. This includes securing and managing data access from both operational systems and the big data platform, transforming data into the required formats, and ensuring its secure delivery to our merchants. What you’ll do: * Work on complex technical projects from requirements analysis through design, implementation, testing and launch into production. * Be hands-on and contribute to the implementation. * Identify and improve parts of the platform to make it more robust and scalable. * Bring your own point of view on best engineering practices. * Your code will be used at scale and you are expected to think in that mindset when building features. * We launch fast and iterate often. Concretely, this means that within your first few weeks, you will bring live functionalities that impact many merchants and shoppers. * Build APIs and tooling according to quality principles such as performance and code quality. * Collaborate across teams and time zones to get projects over the finish line. Senior Development Tooling Engineer Adyen is looking for a Senior Development Tooling Engineer for its Engineering Tools team in Amsterdam. The position involves working on a distributed, real-time, 24/7 system with interesting performance and security requirements. The primary function will be developing tools and applications to create a great DevEx for other Software Engineers at Adyen. You love automating processes, providing tooling and advocating development / SDLC best practices to the rest of the organization. Instead of just scripting, you will be expected to develop experiences which make the daily lives of developers a breeze. Together we will be providing an elevated SDLC experience to the rest of the organization, working closely with the teams involved in the build and release process, but also with the teams that build our underlying on-premises infrastructure, such as our Kubernetes clusters and our own private cloud. What you'll do You will be working alongside a team of great engineers on tooling, software, and systems that aid us in maintaining a lean and performant SDLC for our feature teams. Examples include writing bespoke local or CI tooling, working on our software testing framework or environments, design of release pipeline and associated flows. Who you are * Programming Skills: 7+ years of experience in maintaining high availability in a constantly running system built in multiple languages, proficiency in either Java, Python or Golang is a must. You should also be comfortable with bash scripting. * Linux Background: 2+ years of strong experience working with Linux, particularly in building containers in ephemeral environments. DevEx expert: Able to design and create tools, flows, and setups that provide an amazing developer experience. Great at navigating existing stacks to find and implement improvements. * Owner: Own projects that require coordination between teams and push them through to the end. * Mentor: Able to upskill your peers. * Containerization: Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration. * Building and Automating: Proven track record in developing CI/CD tooling and applications, automating legacy processes to meet modern development standards. * CI/CD Tools: Hands-on experience with writing and maintaining GitLab and Jenkins pipelines. * Infrastructure as Code: At least surface knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, Puppet for system configuration and automation. * Diagnostic Skills: Capable of diagnosing problems effectively and making quick, informed decisions.
