About Aphex At Aphex (https://www.aphex.co/), we believe the best way to improve construction delivery is to give people the tools and time to do their jobs. That's why we're on a mission to transform how engineers and site managers plan, communicate, and track their work every day. Our customers are the industry's giants — building the tunnels, roads, bridges, and power stations that define our cities. Our users are the engineers and project managers who make these projects happen. Since launching in the UK in 2019, we've become the dominant platform for infrastructure and major construction projects across the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, with most of these countries' major infrastructure projects now running on Aphex. We're now expanding into Europe and Asia. We've found strong product-market fit, proven we can scale internationally, and are building the team to do it again. Construction contributes around 10% of global GDP, yet has barely moved the needle on productivity in decades. We're changing that and the market is responding. The Role You've spent years on construction sites. You know what it's like when the Monday planning meeting falls apart, when the subcontractor programme is three weeks out of date, and when nobody can tell you what's actually happening next week. You've lived that frustration. We need someone who's been on the other side of the hoarding to help our biggest accounts get the most out of Aphex and grow with us as we scale internationally. At Aphex, we believe deeply that we are in the business of successful construction project delivery. As an Account Manager, you'll embody this principle, focusing first on helping projects succeed, which naturally leads to enterprise growth and expansion opportunities. You'll join a high-performing UK go to market team of sales and customer success professionals, stepping into a pivotal Account Manager role. We've crafted and refined our playbooks to ensure you can transition smoothly, with the support and structure needed to excel. It's perfect for someone with a deep understanding of construction, eager to leverage their experience in a fast moving and rewarding environment. For someone ambitious and ready to make an impact, it's the perfect moment. You'll have the opportunity to influence major infrastructure delivery across the UK, working with the country's leading contractors. While initially focused on UK accounts, there's clear potential to expand your scope to our growing European customer base as we continue to scale. What You'll Actually Do Your core job is to make projects succeed on Aphex. When projects succeed, the account grows, new divisions, new seats, new products. You own that cycle for your accounts. * Drive adoption on live projects — not from a distance, but by understanding how each team plans and helping them do it better with Aphex * Build relationships with senior stakeholders — Heads of Planning, Operations Directors, Digital Leads — the people who decide whether Aphex becomes the standard * Spot and create expansion opportunities — new divisions, new project types, new products like Aphex Diary * Work with and lead customer success managers to deliver great onboarding and activation for customers * Help customers build consistent operating processes across their projects so Aphex becomes how they work, not another tool to manage * Hit your numbers — quarterly and annual expansion targets, and you'll be expected to deliver Who This Is For * You've been on site for 5+ years — as a Sub-Agent, Agent, or Project Manager. You know how construction projects actually run, not how textbooks say they should. * You're ready for a change — not because you've failed in construction, but because you want to use everything you've learned differently. You want to work with technology, not against it. * You can hold a room. You're comfortable presenting to a Site Manager, a Head of Planning, or an Operations Director — because you've worked alongside people like them your whole career. * You take ownership. When something's yours, it's yours. You don't wait to be told what to do next. What We Offer * A real career change — you're not leaving construction, you're upgrading your role in it. The projects are still getting built. You're helping them get built better. * Higher earning potential — base plus variable, structured so strong performance pays meaningfully more than traditional construction roles. * A team that gets it — Be part of and contribute to a truly high-performing team * Remote-first flexibility — you'll travel to sites and client offices, but you're not living in a site cabin Monday to Friday. Expectation of 2 days a week in the central London office. * The right tools — MacBook Pro, proper setup, modern tech stack * Genuine development — constant training, coaching, and learning to get better every day
Who is PawaPay PawaPay is a pan-African fintech enabling local payment channels used by the mass market to both local and international merchants. We operate in a highly regulated, partner-driven environment and are in scale-up mode, with ambitious growth plans across multiple African markets. Our vision is to simplify business for companies and consumers in Africa and we do that by ensuring that payments simply work, at scale, despite fragmentation and complexity that exists on the Continent. Through our payments API we already facilitate over 4 million transactions a day across 20 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. We are the largest PSP on the Continent for the processing of mobile money payments, and have positioned ourselves well to lead the payment space as it grows over the next decade. At PawaPay, there is an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a modern and professional working culture. The fast-paced, ever-changing environment will suit someone who can adapt and think on their feet. In return, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a group of dedicated and smart individuals working towards the same mission. We work as a remote team and have team members in Europe, Africa and Asia. THE ROLE We are looking for a Head of Merchant Experience to build and lead a new Merchant Experience (MX) function within Product. This is a senior product leadership role responsible for every stage of the merchant journey — from a merchant's first interaction with pawaPay through onboarding, integration, live operations and long-term growth. Today, many parts of the merchant experience are owned by different teams across the business. Your mission is to bring those experiences together into a single, coherent strategy, roadmap and operating model. You'll lead a multidisciplinary team spanning product, design, engineering, AI and QA, working closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations and Customer Success to make pawaPay the easiest payments platform in Africa to discover, integrate and operate. As AI increasingly changes how software is built and consumed, you'll also help shape experiences that work equally well for human users and the AI-powered tools and agents that increasingly interact with payment infrastructure. WHAT YOU'LL DO Build and lead the Merchant Experience function * Define the vision, strategy and roadmap for MX as a new product discipline. * Hire and lead a high-performing team across product, design, engineering and AI. * Establish the operating rhythms, metrics and accountability structures that make the function run. * Create a single MX scorecard that gives the business clear, consistent visibility into merchant health. Own the merchant journey end-to-end * Take full ownership of the merchant lifecycle: discovery, onboarding, integration, live operations, growth and expansion. * Drive measurable improvements in activation, adoption, engagement and retention. * Identify and eliminate friction at every stage of the journey. * Partner closely with Marketing, Sales and Operations so that no merchant falls through the cracks. Build product experiences merchants actually love * Lead the evolution of the merchant dashboard, onboarding flows, documentation and support experience. * Champion quality, usability and design that respects the merchant's time and intelligence. * Push self-serve as a first principle — without sacrificing the quality of support when it's needed. * Partner with Engineering to raise the bar on developer experience, APIs and integration workflows. Use AI where it genuinely matters * Identify high-leverage opportunities to apply AI across onboarding, support, analytics and merchant productivity. * Help define what world-class AI-enabled merchant experiences look like in the payments context. * Ensure AI-powered experiences are trustworthy, measurable and built for the regulatory environments we operate in. * Think ahead: how will agent-driven interactions with payment infrastructure reshape the merchant relationship? Deliver outcomes the business can measure * Reduce time-to-value for new merchants. * Improve onboarding completion and activation rates. * Drive deeper product adoption across the merchant base. * Reduce support volume and cost-to-serve. * Build the kind of merchant satisfaction that turns into retention and advocacy. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Required * 10+ years across Product, Customer Experience, Platform or Digital Product leadership. * 4+ years leading multidisciplinary teams. * A proven track record of improving customer or user experiences at real scale. * Experience owning commercial outcomes — activation, retention, conversion, cost-to-serve. * Strong product and technology fluency; you can go deep with engineering when it counts. * Excellent communicator, written and verbal. * Comfortable with ambiguity and energised by the challenge of building something new. Nice to Have * Experience in payments, fintech or developer platforms. * A background building AI-enabled products or workflows. * B2B SaaS or infrastructure experience. * Exposure to African markets or emerging-market technology businesses. * Experience scaling teams and functions through rapid growth. Why PawaPay? * Help improve financial access in Africa * Being part of an amazing team that shapes company’s culture as a great place to be * An ambitious, talented, and diverse team who always has your back * We grow fast, and you will grow fast with us * Competitive remuneration * 35 days of paid leave per year (inclusive of public holidays) and more.
