We are looking for a Mechanical Designer/Engineer for a global company in Lund. Start is in June 1st, 7 months limited contract to begin with, possibility of extension after that. This role is 100% onsite in Lund. As a mechanical designer at Tetra Pak, you will work as part of a scrum team in a broad role, taking ownership from concept creation to industrialization of the solutions and products. The opportunity HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. It is also used to connect power systems. WHAT WE DO AT BLYKALLA Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company at the forefront of the nuclear industry, pioneering the development of small modular reactors that provide clean, safe, and reliable energy. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO You own mechanical equipment and piping engineering for assigned plant areas, systems, or work packages within Plant Engineering and make sure equipment, piping, valves, supports, and mechanical interfaces support safe, constructable, maintainable, and efficient plant delivery. You turn requirements into practical engineering solutions, coordinate interfaces with other engineering areas and suppliers, and make sure deliverables are complete, consistent, and issued on time. You support the project through design, procurement support, construction support, and handover to commissioning and operations. You also help shape a plant-as-a-product mindset through standardization, modular design, DfMA, and design choices that improve fabrication, assembly, construction, and commissioning. Interfaces and integration * Coordinate interfaces with relevant disciplines and functions. * Resolve issues related to access, maintainability, temporary conditions, constructability, and operations. * Support three-dimensional model reviews and make sure the physical arrangement can be fabricated, installed, pressure-tested, commissioned, maintained, and modified. Suppliers and external partners * Prepare technical input to requests for quotation, bid evaluations, requisitions, and supplier requirements. * Review supplier and contractor documents, including fabrication, modularization, and means and methods inputs where mechanical and piping review is needed, and close comments in a timely way. What you'll do Right now, we are looking for a Process Engineer – Hydrogen Production & Direct Reduction for our Green Iron Operations. The team is responsible for optimizing process performance, supporting safe and stable operations, and driving continuous improvements across our hydrogen production and direct reduction plants. Specific to this role, the day-to-day tasks will include the following, but as we are a growing company with very few silos between teams, other tasks might be included as well. * Provide day-to-day process engineering support to ensure safe, stable, and efficient plant operations. * Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot process upsets, and lead root cause analyses to improve reliability and operational excellence. * Optimize process performance through process modelling, heat and mass balances, debottlenecking, and energy efficiency initiatives. * Support hydrogen production and direct reduction operations during commissioning, start-ups, shutdowns, and operational changes. * Review and develop engineering documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, SOPs, and process control strategies. * Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Automation, and OEM partners to improve process performance and implement engineering solutions. * Drive continuous improvement projects, monitor production KPIs, and prepare technical reports to support data-driven decision-making. * Promote safe operations by supporting process safety activities, hydrogen safety standards, PTW/LOTO compliance, and technical training. Specific to this role, we'd like to see that you bring: * A degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline. * Solid experience in process engineering within heavy industry or continuous process environments, such as hydrogen production, gas processing, petrochemical, steel, refining, or similar industries. * Experience supporting commissioning, start-ups, process optimization, or operational improvements in an industrial setting. * A strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals, with the ability to analyse complex systems and turn insights into practical solutions. * Confidence working across disciplines and collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, Automation, Engineering, and external partners to achieve shared goals. * A proactive, structured, and safety-first approach, with a continuous improvement mindset. * Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken. The research subject of Building materials (https://www.ltu.se/en/research/research-subjects/building-materials?l=en) consists of 15 persons, including four professors and two postdocs. The subject focuses on the development of sustainable materials and production technologies for the construction industry, as well as on ice and arctic conditions-related research and education. Subject description Building Materials includes sustainable building materials and their application technologies, recycling and reuse, and applied building physics, especially focusing on the Arctic conditions. Project description The production of Portland cement still cannot be qualified as an environmentally friendly process due to high CO2 emissions from burning fuels, calcination of limestone, and the negative effects of mining operations. Several solutions are being implemented worldwide, but none have provided an efficient solution. This project aims to study the possibility of substituting the high-temperature clinkering process with a cold synthesis based on mechanochemistry. Duties As a PhD student, you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. The tasks will include laboratory tests, analysis of data, and modeling. Qualifications To be eligible, you must have a master’s degree in materials science or chemistry. You should have basic knowledge of building materials, and you should be fluent in English. The following working/research experience will be of advantage: molecular dynamics modelling (with e.g., LAMMPS open-source software), Thermodynamic modelling, XRD with Rietveld analysis, SEM, TG, DSC, micro-CT, Particle size analysis, calorimetry, and AFM.
