10% of Europe's CO₂ emissions are caused by residential heating, and energy bills are out of control. Aira is here to change that. With our intelligent Aira Heat Pump at the heart, we're making the switch to clean energy-tech easier and more affordable. Helping Europe turn off gas and slashing energy costs one home at a time. Founded in 2022, and with 1000+ employees and counting, Aira is driving the clean energy revolution by providing homes with modern clean energy-tech solutions such as solar power, battery storage solutions and heat pumps. With a state-of-the-art production facility in Poland, an HQ in Stockholm, Sweden, and hubs across the UK, Germany, and Italy, Aira is well on track to install clean energy-tech into 5 million homes by 2034. About the role In the Energy Optimization team, we build optimization and ML models that actively control when the heat pump runs, when the battery charges or discharges, and when to export energy to the grid. We are now building new flexibility capabilities by coordinating fleets of homes to support the grid when it matters most. We’re now looking for a Data Scientist to join the team. You’ll lead projects end-to-end: shape the problem, build forecasting and optimization models, run experiments, and work closely with Product, Engineering and Design to ship customer-facing AI solutions. We value clear communication, thoughtful collaboration, and a constructive approach to problem solving. If you enjoy making measurable progress, turning messy real-world signals into decisions people can trust, and moving projects forward even when the path is not fully defined, we would love to hear from you. What you will be doing Translate real-world control problems into optimization models that minimizes customers’ energy bills. Develop and improve forecasting and decision-support models enabling optimal control schedules for customers’ home energy devices. Design and run experiments on real customer systems, evaluate impact, and turn insights into product decisions. Work closely with the team to bring models into production. Work across the full data stack, including data pipelines, feature engineering, deployment and monitoring. Lead initiatives from discovery to production impact. You set direction, align with stakeholders across product and engineering to deliver outcomes even when the path is not fully defined. Communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, explaining trade-offs, uncertainty, and what is good enough to ship. What you bring to the team Several years of experience as a Data Scientist, Optimization Engineer, Applied Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer or similar. Strong mathematical and statistical modelling skills. Experience with time-series forecasting and machine learning, ideally applied to operational systems. Experience working in Python and with modern ML/optimization tooling and workflows. Solid Software Engineering fundamentals for deploying and maintaining ML systems in production. A pragmatic, product-oriented mindset: you optimize for real-world impact, not model complexity. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Nice to have Experience with constrained optimization and applying it to real-world systems. Experience with energy systems or electricity market knowledge, especially flexibility and demand response. Experience with control system or physical systems modelling. What is in it for you? Gain hands-on experience in a fast-growing scale-up, with a supportive and inclusive culture, and career advancement opportunities. Collaborate with diverse teams across international markets and launch products globally. Develop and grow personally and professionally in an entrepreneurial-minded environment. Thrive in a dynamic, solution-oriented culture, tackling challenges and driving meaningful solutions that make a positive impact on the world. Influence the company's success, with a visible impact on product development and market growth.
