Om utbildningen DEMCAMP undersöker hur tillämpad etik kan bidra till att förstå och bemöta de sårbarheter som flyktingar upplever i flyktingläger i det globala Syd. Projektet utvecklar en normativ demokratiteori som kan svara mot de ekonomiska, juridiska och politiska system som växer fram i lägren. Inom projektet ska doktoranden skriva en avhandling om demokratiseringen av humanitära organisationer och deras roll i flyktingläger, särskilt organisationer som UNHCR. ”Demokratisering av flyktingläger” (DEMCAMP) är ett projekt finansierat av Swedish Foundations’ Starting Grant, via Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Projektets forskningsledare är Felix Bender. DEMCAMP frågar sig vad en tillämpad etik har att säga om de många flyktingar som inte lever i det globala Nord, utan stannar kvar i det globala Syd och, mer specifikt, i flyktingläger. Projektet undersöker hur vi kan förstå och på ett adekvat sätt reagera på de sårbarheter som flyktingar upplever i lägren. Projektet utvecklar 1) en teori som bättre fångar de sårbarheter som flyktingar upplever i flyktingläger och 2) en normativ demokratisk teori som kan bemöta dessa sårbarheter. DEMCAMP visar att vi i flyktingläger kan se framväxten av ekonomiska, rättsliga och politiska system som vart och ett fungerar enligt sina egna regler och logiker, och som leder till att flyktingar upplever en uppsättning sårbarheter som förblir osynliga om flyktingars sårbarhet definieras externt av humanitära organisationer, såsom UNHCR, och först därefter tillämpas på flyktingläger. För att på ett adekvat sätt reagera på de sårbarheter som flyktingar upplever behöver flyktingläger demokratiseras. Doktoranden kommer att arbeta med demokratiseringen av humanitära organisationer och samarbeta med projektledaren (PI) kring de roller som humanitära organisationer bör spela i flyktingläger med en demokratisk struktur.
