Role Overview 🚀 As a Software Developer in our FPS Foundations team, you'll work almost entirely on backend development (90%+), with occasional, light frontend involvement. The team owns the foundational components and services that the rest of the platform is built on, such as the core frameworks, the user and company data domain, and the APIs and platform services that every other team depends on. Reliability, data integrity and security are central to everything the team delivers. This role is focused on turning business and architectural needs into well-built, maintainable systems: designing clean APIs, evolving long-lived frameworks safely, and helping share knowledge across our internal developer community. You'll also help shape our ways of working and technical direction. You'll join a focused team of engineers working alongside a tech lead, a product manager and an engineering manager in Gothenburg. We are also on a journey to use AI more deliberately in our daily engineering work. We are looking for someone who has practical experience with AI-assisted and agentic coding workflows, or who wants to keep exploring how these tools can help us move faster, improve quality, understand complex codebases, and reduce repetitive work without lowering our engineering standards. Responsibilities 🤘 * Design, build and maintain backend services, APIs and shared frameworks to a high standard. * Evolve and progressively refactor a large, long-lived codebase safely. * Treat non-functional qualities such as reliability, backward compatibility, data integrity, security and performance as high priority. * Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders, working with domain experts to keep solutions aligned with the business. * Participate in code reviews and uphold shared coding standards. * Write automated integration and component tests. * Help drive technical decisions, reduce technical debt, and document and share knowledge so critical areas aren't held by one person. Responsibilities 🤘 * Develop backend services and maintain high coding standards. * Contribute to frontend changes using JavaScript and TypeScript when needed. * Collaborate with developers, product owners, UX designers, and other stakeholders. * Participate in code reviews and uphold team coding standards. * Implement automated integration and component tests. * Drive technical strategy, refactor legacy code, and reduce technical debt. * Engage in pair and mob programming sessions to solve the more complex problems together. What are we looking for? 🔎 * Strong experience with Java, SQL, and Spring / Spring Boot. * Solid understanding of Git and CI/CD pipelines. * API design and development (REST / OpenAPI). * As this is central to the role, we want someone who cares about clear, well-versioned, dependable interfaces. * Experienced in evaluating trade-offs between solution design, quality, and timeframes. * Comfort working in large, established codebases. * This includes reading unfamiliar code, understanding existing frameworks, and making careful, incremental changes rather than rewriting from scratch. * Practical experience in Domain-Driven Design, including working with domain experts to build well-aligned, maintainable systems. * A collaborative way of working. This means enjoying being in the office with the team as required, working through pair and mob programming when it helps, communicating openly, and constructively challenging ideas. Important, but not essential: * Microservices experience: Most of our work happens within an established platform and its shared frameworks, so we value the judgement to know when a service boundary is worth drawing more than a long list of microservices built. * AI-assisted development: We care more about a learning mindset and curiosity for using AI tools to work better than about existing skillset. * Cloud platforms: We're progressively moving towards GCP, we experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) is preferred. * Asynchronous messaging, pub/sub and system integration, and data-exchange patterns. * Observability and monitoring tooling (e.g. Grafana) and Hibernate. Please note: Our recruitment process will begin in mid-to-late August, once the hiring team has returned from their summer holidays. We appreciate your patience and look forward to reviewing your application. We look forward to receiving and reading your application! Our Interview Process ✌ Benifex understand the need to have a fast and efficient process, the below will all be completed in the shortest time possible, typically a 2-2.5 week timeframe. 📞 Initial informal call with the Talent team ⏳ Interview with our Engineering Director 30-45 min 🧪 Technical Task 🔎 Technical Interview - 60 min 🤩 Final interview with VP of Engineering - 30-45 min We are a proud member of the Disability Confident employer scheme. If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage during the recruitment process, please let us know with your application.
