Doktorand i evolutionär genomik Institutionen för ekologi och genetik (IEG) är en del av Evolutionary Biology Centre (EBC), ett dynamisk och internationellt erkänt centrum för evolutionsbiologisk och ekologisk forskning. IEG omfattar forskargrupper som arbetar på alla nivåer av biologisk organisation (från molekyler till ekosystem) och med flera olika studiesystem (växter, djur, svampar, bakterier). Programmet för växtekologi och evolution, där doktorandpositionen är placerad, rymmer nio forskargrupper som fokuserar på genomik, anpassning och artbildning samt på samhällsekologi. Forskarna har tillgång till förstklassiga växthus och klimatkontrollerade faciliteter, moderna molekylärbiologiska laboratorier och ett högpresterande datorkluster (UPPMAX). Institutionen arbetar nära den nationella infrastrukturen SciLifeLab. Kort projektbeskrivning: Könskvoten och könskromosomernas evolution Könskromosomer är av grundläggande betydelse inom biologin, men vår förståelse av deras evolution är fortfarande begränsad. Genetiska konflikter, såsom meiotisk drive som påverkar könsfördelningen, har länge kopplats till den snabba evolutionen av könskromosomer och kan därmed bidra till divergens och artbildning. I detta projekt studeras ett växtsläkte, vide (Salix), som är tvåbyggare. Inom Salix är en skev könskvot till honornas fördel vanlig och en hög omsättning av könskromosomer har beskrivits. (Mer beskrivning av projektet finns på Uppsala universitets hemsida, https://uu.se/jobb/ ) I detta doktorandprojekt kommer du att utföra forskning om några av de mest fascinerande frågorna inom evolutionsbiologi: hur könskromosomer utvecklas och vad som styr könskvoter i naturliga populationer. Du kommer att arbeta med avancerade metoder inom populationsgenomik, bioinformatik och modellering, och, till en mindre del, även med experiment i odlingsrum och i det molekylärbiologiska laboratoriet. Som doktorand deltar du i ett anpassat kursprogram som stödjer din vetenskapliga och akademiska utveckling samt stärker dina pedagogiska färdigheter. För den som är intresserad finns goda möjligheter att delta i undervisning. Kvalifikationskrav Behörig till utbildning på forskarnivå är den som har avlagt examen på avancerad nivå inom biologi med specialisering i evolutionär biologi, populationsgenetik/genomik, bioinformatik eller närliggande ämne. Du är också välkommen att ansöka om du förväntas ta din examen inom kort. Meriterande Tidigare erfarenheter med populationsgenomisk modellering (t.ex. SLiM), analys av strukturella varianter från long-read-data samt populationsgenomiska analyser (WGS) är meriterande— dessa tekniker kommer att behövas i projektet. Utbildning eller tidigare deltagande i forskning om könskvoter, könskromosomernas evolution, strukturell variation, själviska genetiska element, meiotisk drive eller närliggande ämnen är en fördel. Åtminstone en mindre del av doktorandprojektet kommer att omfatta molekylärt laboratoriearbete samt experiment i med växter (videarter). Har du tidigare arbetat med dessa metoder är det bra, men det är inte nödvändigt; vi förväntar oss dock att kandidater är intresserade av att lära sig dessa praktiska färdigheter. Även om projektet har en preliminär plan med finansiering från Vetenskapsrådet, kommer de olika delarna av projektet att revideras och vidareutvecklas baserat på aktuella framsteg och resultat.
