💰 🇩🇰 up to 75,000 DKK gross/month (depending on seniority level) About the Role We are looking for an experienced financial-crime leader to be our registered MLRO / Hvidvaskansvarlig (HVL § 7, stk. 2) for Monta Pay ApS under our EMI license and to lead Financial Crime Prevention (FCP) across Monta, group-wide for the Danish/EEA EMI plus UK and US compliance as those markets scale. The role is registered with Finanstilsynet, so the appointment is subject to a fit & proper assessment as a change of key function holder. Monta Pay ApS holds an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license, granted by Finanstilsynet in April 2026. We are now migrating our financial services from Monta ApS to Monta Pay ApS, with go-live planned for Q2 2027. This is the moment the AML/FCP framework moves from build to live operation, and you will own it. This is a high-profile, senior role. You sit at the centre of our financial-services compliance strategy as we scale, "directly exposed to the fire." You must balance obligations against resources with a risk-based approach, communicate complex issues clearly to senior leaders and the Board, and run your work-streams with strong, solution-oriented project management. In return, you have an outsized impact on how Monta builds and operates financial services compliance, and direct exposure to decision-making at a fast-growing scale-up. You report day to day to Nick Skovsen, COO of Monta Pay ApS, with direct, independent access to the CEO and executive management of Monta Pay ApS and to its Board and Governance, Risk & Compliance Committee. Key responsibilities Registered MLRO / Hvidvaskansvarlig: Act as the statutory AML-responsible person for Monta Pay under the EMI license. Approve AML/CTF policies and high-risk customer relationships escalated by the first line (PEPs, and business involving high-risk third countries). Receive internal escalations, decide on and file SARs/STRs with the FIU, and be the primary AML contact for Finanstilsynet. Own the Financial Crime Prevention framework: Steward Monta's FCP model (our nine-pillar "FC9" framework) covering AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, and anti-bribery & corruption. Propose the risk appetite and risk-based approach for Board approval and monitor against it, and keep the framework effective and proportionate to our activities, customer types (B2B & B2C), and transaction flows. Fraud, transaction monitoring & customer due diligence: Own the frameworks for fraud prevention, transaction monitoring, and KYC/KYB (CDD/EDD, PEP and sanctions screening) across onboarding and the lifecycle (EU and US). Set the rules, thresholds and procedures the Financial Operations team runs in the first line, and assure their quality and effectiveness. Sanctions & screening: Set the screening standards (lists, thresholds, re-screening frequency) and assure the quality of first-line alert handling. Policy suite, risk assessment & governance: Maintain the AML/CFT policy suite in the Centralised Policy Register (with version control and Board-approval tracking), and own the Business-Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA) and the AML risk assessment underpinning the framework. Regulatory reporting: Deliver AML and payments regulatory reporting (for example Section 99 Payment Act, KPSD, AML/CTF returns) and ensure CESOP readiness. Technology, controls & assurance: Work with Product and Engineering on case management, screening and monitoring tooling and AI/automation, oversee AML-relevant third parties, and run the internal-controls framework (monitoring, QA, remediation). Training, culture & Board liaison: Build AML/FCP training and a strong compliance culture, and advise Senior Management and the Board GRC Committee on financial-crime risk, regulatory change, and performance. Build and lead the team: Build out and lead the second-line FCP/AML team as volumes grow post go-live. What You’ll Walk Into (first 6 to 12 months) The foundations are in place; the job is to make them operational for go-live. On AML: everything required to obtain the EMI license has been submitted and approved. The remaining gap is operational readiness, and that is the focus: embedding the framework in day-to-day operations and rolling it out with our customers and with colleagues across Monta. On FCP: This role brings centralised ownership and direction, consolidating what already exists, formalising it into clear Standard Operating Procedures, and training the relevant teams on them ahead of go-live. Concrete early priorities include standing up transaction monitoring and fraud detection, locking v1.0 of the policy suite (Sanctions, PEP, EDD, Outsourcing, and the Sanction-Screening and SAR/STR filing SOPs) into the Centralised Policy Register, building the regulatory-reporting data structure and CESOP readiness, finalising KYC/KYB (EU + US), and securing your Finanstilsynet fit & proper approval ahead of go-live. A structured focus-areas plan accompanies this role. Requirements Minimum 3 years (ideally 5+, given this is a registered key-function role) of relevant experience in the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, ideally in a licensed EMI, payment institution, bank, or regulated fintech. Comparable experience in public authorities, AML consulting, or other AML-regulated sectors (for example gaming/gambling) will also be considered. Strong, current understanding of Danish AML law (Hvidvaskloven) and the EU framework (AMLD/AMLR, EBA guidelines), plus sanctions regimes. Awareness of the incoming EU AML package (AMLR + AMLD6, applying July 2027) is a plus. Eligibility to pass a Finanstilsynet fit & proper assessment. Prior approval in a fit & proper / key-function role at an EU financial institution is a strong advantage. Hands-on experience with fraud prevention and transaction monitoring, and with the underlying tooling (KYC/KYB, screening, monitoring, case management). Data literacy and comfort with AI/automation are a plus. Experience across risk controls, compliance, the payments area, credit management, or lines-of-defence leadership. Fintech/scale-up experience is a plus. Strong communication skills, autonomy, and sound decision-making, with the ability to build from a blank page and then scale a function and team. Analytical and investigative skills to detect patterns and anomalies in financial transactions and to investigate suspicious activity. Danish speaking, or willing to learn (the role is regulator-facing). Relevant education (economics, mathematics, law, or financial-sector training) is a plus. No prior convictions or legal issues that would make the candidate unfit for the role, particularly offences related to financial crime, fraud, money laundering, or other criminal activities undermining trust and integrity. 💰 🇩🇰 up to 46,000 DKK gross/month (depending on seniority level) Intro Monta powers the EV charging ecosystem. With 300,000+ monthly users and millions of charge sessions every month, our platform accelerates the electrification of mobility. This is a fast-moving place. The problems are hard, the pace is quick, and the bar is high. If you like real ownership, figuring things out, and seeing the direct impact of your work, you’ll do well with us. AI is built into how we work. It helps us ship faster, make better decisions, and stay lean. Everyone at Monta is expected to use AI tools thoughtfully - and to find smart ways to use them to move the work forward. Our principles keep us grounded: Build Together & Finish, Sweat the Details, Customer First, and Aim for the Moon. The best part of Monta is the people - sharp, ambitious, and good to be around. You’ll be challenged, supported, and trusted to deliver. We’re looking for a Jun/Mid Level Engineer who’s ready to roll up their sleeves, take ownership, and build with us - through the grind and the wins. This Is What You Will Achieve Owned an OCPP hardening project - chased down a recurring class of vendor quirks (malformed messages, connection drops, the long tail of hardware oddities), shipped the fix, and measurably cut failed sessions or disconnections for that device family. Helped shift the team from reacting to incidents to preventing them, through alerting and observability work that catches problems earlier. Made real progress on OCPP 1.6, OCPP 2.0.1, and OCPI standards work that other services and front-ends across Monta now rely on. What You Will Do Build and maintain backend services in NetOps' OCPP and charge point domain - protocol handling, message processing, device state, integrations with hardware vendors. Debug things that only break in the field. A charge point in Belgium disconnects every 40 minutes - you'll read the OCPP traffic, reproduce it against our emulator, find the cause, and fix it. Improve observability and alerting. Add the metrics, dashboards, and alerts that mean the next person doesn't have to guess. Take part in on-call once you're ramped up , with a team that treats a rough night as a reason to fix the system, not a rite of passage. Automate manual work away - a meaningful part of NetOps' job is removing the human steps that don't scale as our network grows. Collaborate across Product, Support, and the operations teams who live with the consequences of what we ship. You won't work in a silo. A brief overview of our tech stack: Kotlin services (JVM), with Java where it already lives PHP/Laravel monolith - parts of our charge point domain still run here OCPP 1.6 / 2.0.1 and OCPI protocol handling Event-driven work with Kafka where message volume calls for it Observability via Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenSearch/Kibana AWS + Kubernetes, with Terraform for infrastructure What We’re Looking For 1–4 years of backend engineering experience, or a strong junior track record with real production exposure. You write clean, readable code and finish what you start. Comfortable in a JVM language - Kotlin preferred, Java fine, and we'll help you get there from another stack if the fundamentals are strong. Willingness to touch PHP in our legacy monolith when the work calls for it. You enjoy debugging, genuinely - logs, traces, packet-level detail, weird one-off reports from a single customer. A sense of ownership - you follow your work into production, watch it, and flag problems early rather than waiting to be asked. Nice to have : curiosity about the physical world (our systems talk to metal boxes with electricity in them); clear communication - you can explain what broke and why to someone who isn't an engineer; advanced, deliberate use of AI tools in your daily engineering workflow. Bonus points for : exposure to OCPP, OCPI, EV charging, or the EV industry as a driver or enthusiast; IoT, embedded, or telemetry systems where devices in the field misbehave; event-driven architectures (Kafka) or high-volume message processing; reliability/monitoring/on-call experience (Prometheus, Grafana, SLOs); Kubernetes, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code exposure. If the mission excites you but your experience isn’t a perfect 1:1 match, apply anyway - we care about potential, not perfection. AI Competency You’ll be expected to work with AI-powered tools. Some we use: GitHub Copilot / Claude Code ChatGPT / Gemini / Claude Notion AI (docs, knowledge, meeting notes) Analytics & ML: Langfuse, PyTorch, Mastra AI-enhanced testing & monitoring (e.g., generative QA, Grafana ML) We don’t expect mastery of all - but we expect comfort learning, experimenting, and adopting AI responsibly. Why Monta Impact, not easy mode - your work matters, and you’ll feel it every day. Ownership from day one - we don’t micromanage, we expect you to deliver. The grind is real - priorities shift, and flexibility is sometimes needed to get things across the finish line. But so are the rewards: impact, growth, and a team that has your back. 💰 🇩🇰 up to 64,000 DKK/month gross (varies by seniority) Intro Monta powers the EV charging ecosystem. With 300,000+ monthly users and millions of charge sessions every month, our platform accelerates the electrification of mobility. This is a fast-moving place. The problems are hard, the pace is quick, and the bar is high. If you like real ownership, figuring things out, and seeing the direct impact of your work, you'll do well with us. AI is not a nice-to-have at Monta. It's how we work. Engineers use Claude Code daily. We ship faster, make better decisions, and stay lean because of it. We expect everyone to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI, not just use it passively. Our principles keep us grounded: Build Together & Finish, Sweat the Details, Customer First, and Aim for the Moon. The best part of Monta is the people: sharp, ambitious, and good to be around. You'll be challenged, supported, and trusted to deliver. The Role We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Financial Services team, the team responsible for every euro that flows through Monta's platform. This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role where you'll own the architecture and delivery of complex financial systems, working across teams to ensure we can scale reliably as we expand across Europe. Financial Services is at an inflection point. Our transaction volume is growing fast and already processes millions of euros each month. We're building the next generation of our financial infrastructure, including new billing models and compliance capabilities to support expansion into new EU markets. The problems are hard, the stakes are real, and the work matters. We need someone who takes full ownership of what they build. Not someone who waits for direction, but someone who sees what needs to happen, drives it forward, and delivers. You will own projects end-to-end, from technical design through to production, and you'll be accountable for outcomes, not just output. You should also be someone who has embraced AI as a core part of how you work. We use Claude Code extensively across the Financial Services team for everything from writing and reviewing code to designing systems and exploring financial domain problems. We expect you to be an advanced AI user who actively finds new ways to leverage these tools to move faster and think better. This Is What You Will Achieve Redesign Monta's financial backbone. You'll architect and build the new invoicing system that every customer will use, replacing the current infrastructure with a foundation built for serious scale. Unblock EU expansion. You'll build the compliance infrastructure (e-invoicing, fiscalization, VAT) that enables Monta to enter new European markets. Strengthen the money flow. You'll improve the reliability and scalability of payment processing, reconciliation, and withdrawal systems across a rapidly growing transaction volume. What You Will Do Own the new invoice system end-to-end. Design and deliver a new invoicing architecture that supports multiple billing models and financial flows as the business scales into new markets. Build and scale compliance infrastructure. E-invoicing across European markets. Fiscalization integrations. A VAT engine that handles the complexity of cross-border EV charging. Improve payment flows from card to payout. Card payments, automated reconciliation, withdrawal reliability, and working capital management. Collaborate across Finance, Legal, Revenue Operations, and Product to deliver new billing and commercial models. You won't work in a silo. Drive architecture decisions for systems that must be right. Every euro must be traceable from summary down to line item. You'll design for auditability, correctness, and scale. Elevate the team around you. Contribute to the growth of the Financial Services engineering team through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing. What We're Looking For Strong backend engineering experience. You've built and maintained production systems at scale. Java/Kotlin preferred, but strong engineers from other stacks are welcome. Experience with financial systems. Billing, invoicing, payment processing, or similar domains where correctness and reliability are non-negotiable. Proven ability to own architecture across teams. You don't just write code, you shape systems. You've led technical design for complex projects that span multiple teams. A strong sense of ownership. You take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. When something needs to happen, you make it happen. You don't wait to be asked. Comfortable navigating ambiguity. Regulatory landscapes shift, business models evolve, and priorities change. You bring structure where there is none. Curiosity about financial infrastructure. Invoicing, VAT, compliance, payment flows. You don't need to be a domain expert on day one, but you're eager to go deep. Advanced AI adoption. You already use AI tools daily in your engineering workflow and you're always looking for new ways to apply them. You don't just accept suggestions, you prompt deliberately, iterate on output, and integrate AI into how you design, build, and debug. Strong collaboration and communication skills. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, legal, and product. You build alignment fast and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders. Bonus: Experience with EU financial regulations, e-invoicing standards, or fiscalization Experience with payment service providers or payment infrastructure Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka) or high-throughput data processing If the mission excites you but your experience isn't a perfect 1:1 match, apply anyway. We care about potential, not perfection. AI at Monta Engineering AI is central to how we build software at Monta. It's not a side experiment. It's embedded in our daily work and we expect every engineer to be a power user. Tools we use daily: Claude Code for writing, reviewing, and refactoring code, exploring domain problems, and building internal tooling Claude / Gemini for research, design thinking, and documentation Notion AI for docs, knowledge management, and meeting notes AI-enhanced testing and monitoring We expect you to bring a strong opinion on how to use AI effectively in engineering. If you've built custom workflows, pushed the limits of agentic coding, or found creative ways to use LLMs in your development process, you'll fit right in. Why Monta Impact, not easy mode. Your work matters, and you'll feel it every day. Ownership from day one. We don't micromanage, we expect you to deliver. The people are extraordinary. Talented, driven, and fun to work with. You'll be challenged, supported, and inspired in equal measure. What We Offer A yearly education budget and extra days off to use it. A friendly and social company culture with movie nights, Friday bars, pub crawls, and more. Free lunch every day. Pension & health coverage to keep you secure for today and tomorrow.
