About us The research at the Division of Microstructure Physics focuses on experimental investigations of engineering materials using advanced characterization techniques. We mainly use electron microscopy, atom probe tomography (APT) and large scale facilities (synchrotron and neutron scattering). The research primarily deals with the relation between microstructure and properties, and how this relationship is influenced by processing and in-service degradation. Among the materials studied, steel, hard coatings, zirconium alloys and high entropy materials are central. The applications are often related to energy and sustainability. About the research project Nuclear fuel is enclosed in cladding tubes made from zirconium alloys. To improve reactor safety and economic performance, new alloys are continuously being developed. In this project, the corrosion behaviour of a novel zirconium alloy will be investigated to improve our understanding of the underlying corrosion mechanisms and support the development of next-generation materials. Advanced characterization techniques, including electron microscopy and atom probe tomography, will be used to study corrosion processes at the atomic scale. Help operate one of Europe’s most advanced scientific facilities. The European Spallation Source (ESS) is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. About the role: We are looking to build up our team of Operators to join our Remote Handling (RH) Group. The RH Group plays a key role in operating, maintaining, and developing the equipment used for transferring and processing radioactive components and waste within the ESS Active Cells Facility (our environment for handling radioactive components safely) using specialised Cask Assemblies. You will work with highly specialised remote handling systems, heavy lifting equipment, Virtual Reality-supported operations, and complex electromechanical systems in a unique radioactive waste handling and maintenance environment. Wet A fast-paced, varied and unique area where the processes differ a lot: wet-etching, deposition and vapor techniques are used to both remove and build material on our chips. The team consists of five Service Technicians and ten Process Engineers. The role Your overall responsibility is to ensure manufacturing goals are met, together with operators and service technicians. Your days will be a mix of meetings with Product Managers and developing new processes that meet customers' specifications. You will also participate in creating work routines for operators and solving problems that occur in the area, driving improvement projects to enhance our workflow and processes in the area. In this role, you will: Develop, maintain and improve processes. Handle stopped production batches and development material together with process integration engineers (PIs). Be a part of creating/improving the infrastructure for operator training and make sure current routine is available and up to date. Participate in process qualification of new equipment/materials and release to them production. Participate in the startup of new products, review specifications and process flows. Grow into taking responsibility for area equipment, improving the tool uptime, maintain and develop new standardized process modules. Drive improvement projects independently. We are looking for someone who has A master's degree in engineering, specializing in Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field. Being part of this research project gives you the one-of-a-kind experience in form of doing experiments at the world´s first 4th generation synchrotron, MAX IV in Lund, Sweden. The successful candidate will contribute to the experimental and theoretical investigation of two-dimensional Pb films coupled to metal and semiconductor surfaces. This work builds on our ongoing, long-term research program centered on spin-split electronic structures of quantum wells—an area that has attracted significant attention in the context of spintronics. Complemented with density functional theory (DFT) calculations to build scientific and technical competence as well as strengthen transferrable skills, this position provides you with the skills, knowledge and competence needed to be successful in your field. Description of the workplace The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship in Physics at the Department of Engineering and Physics. Materials science is one of the faculty’s strategic research areas and has an inspiring multidisciplinary atmosphere.
