Subject description Electric Power Engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production and transpor-tation of electrical energy, and the interaction between power grid, electricity production, and electricity consumption. Project description The project aims to develop models that describe how HVDC installations affect, and are af-fected by, power quality in electrical networks up to 150 kHz. Measurements will be used to further develop existing models and to distinguish between primary and secondary emissions as well as nonlinear interactions. The results will provide the basis for a generalized model of emission and immunity related to HVDC installations.The study will also investigate network resonances, interactions between multiple HVDC in-stallations, and the effects on transformers and other grid-connected equipment. The project is carried out in collaboration between Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Hitachi Energy. Duties A PhD position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a doctoral student, you will be trained in scientific research through the publication of journal articles and presentations at national and international conferences. You will also complete both mandatory and elective doctoral courses. In addition, you may have the opportunity to gain teaching experience. As a researcher, you often work as a neutral party in various contexts, providing an excellent opportunity to learn how to manage and contribute to challenging development and research projects. Your work will primarily focus on theoretical modeling and simulations, although laboratory and field measurements may also form part of the research activities. We are looking for an experienced System Design Engineer Specialist to join an exciting product development program focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The opportunity HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group within Hitachi Energy that develops, manufactures, and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances and to connect offshore wind farms to the grid. We are looking for two project engineers to join the Harmonic Analysis team within HVDC. We welcome applications from both entry-level and experienced candidates. In this role, you will work with harmonic analysis, power quality, and electrical system studies for HVDC converter stations. You will collaborate across projects and contribute to the successful integration of HVDC stations with electrical networks and offshore wind farms. How you'll make an impact Collaborate in project teams responsible for the electrical system design of HVDC converter stations. Perform harmonic studies below 15 kHz and support compliance measurements during commissioning. Evaluate whether specified harmonic power quality requirements can be fulfilled. Analyze small-signal stability in the harmonic range when connecting an HVDC station to a network or wind farm. Propose active or passive mitigation measures, such as harmonic filters or harmonic dampers, when needed. Calculate harmonic stresses in HVDC station main circuit equipment and assess whether mitigation measures or redesigns are required. Develop tools in Excel, MATLAB, or Python to efficiently analyze and process large amounts of data. Participate in technical discussions and negotiations with colleagues, customers, and suppliers. Present your work and contribute to discussions on challenges and the path forward. Write clear and professional technical reports describing complex study work and results. What you’ll own ·        End-to-end mechanical fitout workstream plan, deliverables and decision log ·        Mechanical interfaces across electrical power, controls/BMS, fire/life safety, water, structural and civil ·        TDD responses for mechanical scope with traceable assumptions and evidence ·        Equipment and vendor strategy: specifications, bid evaluations, clarifications, FAT/SAT input ·        Design issue resolution during construction (RFIs, changes, non-conformance, risk mitigation) Key responsibilities ·        Lead the mechanical design from early phase through construction, ensuring outputs are buildable, operable and maintainable ·        Produce and defend mechanical design decisions (topology, redundancy, water strategy, modularity, control philosophy) ·        Translate customer requirements into robust fitout solutions, including options analysis and cost/benefit trade-offs ·        Write technical specifications and RFQs for major mechanical packages; run structured bid evaluation and clarification processes ·        Act as technical representative with suppliers: clarification logs, performance criteria, testing/acceptance inputs ·        Maintain strong control of scope: identify design risks early, prevent technical scope creep, drive closure to decisions ·        Operate effectively in Nordic delivery environments: clear cadence, transparent communication, fast decisions with good rationale Typical mechanical scope (indicative) ·        Cooling plant and distribution (air and/or liquid cooling infrastructure) ·        Heat rejection and water-side systems, pumping, pipework, valves, filtration/water treatment ·        In-room/white space mechanical fitout and airflow strategy ·        Controls integration (BMS/controls philosophy), alarms, commissioning readiness inputs ·        Maintainability, access, service strategy and operational handover requirements Key interfaces ·        CTO / technical governance (alignment to principles, waivers where needed) ·        Electrical technical lead (power availability, resilience, interfaces, sequencing) ·        Controls/BMS stakeholders (control intent, integration approach, commissioning strategy) ·        Project/construction leadership (schedule, risks, changes, installation constraints) ·        Procurement and key vendors (technical packs, evaluation, testing/acceptance criteria) What good looks like in the first 90 days ·        Mechanical workstream plan established with dependencies, interfaces and decision gates ·        TDD responses delivered with strong traceability, timely closures and minimal rework ·        RFQ/spec packs issued for priority packages; bid evaluation framework running cleanly ·        Clear interface agreements with electrical/controls/fire/water/structure, with no “surprises” late in design ·        Practical construction support cadence in place (RFI triage, change control, issue resolution) Experience and capabilities ·        Proven ownership of mechanical design on mission-critical projects (data centres strongly preferred) ·        Deep mechanical discipline expertise and confidence leading technical reviews and design decisions ·        Strong procurement and vendor management experience (specs, bid evaluations, technical clarifications) ·        Evidence-led communication: assumptions, calculations, options and rationale that stand up in review ·        Calm, structured problem-solving under schedule pressure; comfortable in high-stakes trade-offs ·        Strong collaboration style across multi-discipline teams and site delivery stakeholders

Create, maintain, and analyze current and forecasted schedules, including costs, resources, and risks. Develop solutions to handle delays and ensure project timelines are met. Follow up on projects, produce reports, and conduct regular analyses (e.g., S-curves, OTD, earned value, and critical path). Highlight deviations and potential issues to project managers and the project team. Collaborate closely with project leaders and team members, playing a key role in the further development of Project Controls. Your Background You bring approximately 7 years of experience in Planning & Scheduling, Project Controls, Earned Value Analysis, and follow-up with S-curves, particularly using Primavera P6. Experience with other planning systems is a plus. You are self-driven, take personal responsibility, and are both structured and organized. You thrive in a team environment, motivating and inspiring your colleagues. You excel at managing multiple projects simultaneously and making effective prioritization decisions. You possess a strong knowledge of Excel and Office packages. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous.
