The Opportunity The Product Group Transformer Components and Service is a key product group within Hitachi Energy. The opportunity Plant Electrical Design is part of HVDC Engineering and manages the delivery of the auxiliary power system for HVDC stations. The system we manage includes equipment such as auxiliary transformers, medium & low voltage switchgear, diesel generator systems, batteries, UPS and cables. To be able to deliver the system in a safe and reliable way, we are now searching for Designers to strengthen our team. In this role, you will be part of a team with the overall responsibility for the department’s scope of delivery which includes system design, selectivity studies, equipment specification, cable and cable transit systems. The design of the auxiliary system is complex and customized based on the customer requirements which makes our work challenging, but also very exciting since every project is different from another. By collaborating with your team, you will ensure that our deliveries are time and cost efficient with expected quality. You will also have a large global network since you will be part of a global and diverse team located in different countries around the world. This role has two openings and they will be based in Västerås. How you´ll make an impact Create Auxiliary Power Single Line Diagrams (SLD). Perform load calculations and prepare List of Load. Ensure accurate dimensioning of equipment. Read and understand requirement specifications, review supplier drawings, and participate in customer meetings. Take part and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and supervise installation and commissioning. Perform tasks related to cable way and cable design. Your background Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience from a similar role with tasks in auxiliary power, selectivity studies, or leading installation/commissioning of low voltage equipment. A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to team efforts. Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken). Knowledge of CAD-tools that handle both electrical circuit diagrams and layouts is a plus. In the field of power quality, the subject enjoys a strong international reputation thanks to its world-leading research. Subject description Electric Power Engineering covers studies of sustainable systems for production and transpor-tation of electrical energy, and the interaction between power grid, electricity production, and electricity consumption. Project description The project aims to develop models that describe how HVDC installations affect, and are af-fected by, power quality in electrical networks up to 150 kHz. Measurements will be used to further develop existing models and to distinguish between primary and secondary emissions as well as nonlinear interactions. The results will provide the basis for a generalized model of emission and immunity related to HVDC installations.The study will also investigate network resonances, interactions between multiple HVDC in-stallations, and the effects on transformers and other grid-connected equipment. The project is carried out in collaboration between Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Hitachi Energy. Duties A PhD position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a doctoral student, you will be trained in scientific research through the publication of journal articles and presentations at national and international conferences. You will also complete both mandatory and elective doctoral courses. In addition, you may have the opportunity to gain teaching experience. As a researcher, you often work as a neutral party in various contexts, providing an excellent opportunity to learn how to manage and contribute to challenging development and research projects. Your work will primarily focus on theoretical modeling and simulations, although laboratory and field measurements may also form part of the research activities. Qualifications You are qualified to apply for this position if you have an MSc or equivalent technical degree with specialization appropriate for research in electrical power engineering such as electrical engineering, electronics, energy, engineering physics or similar areas.
